I think there's zero chance of him playing that soon, even if he signs tomorrow. first I doubt he'd be eligible that quick with work permit/international clearance. and second, he would barely have a chance to meet his team-mates before then.

That rational view is not enough for our Harry though. He better be in what will happen H If he isn't? You striking?

SSN saying that Sanchez flies in Sunday for a medical. How the hell does that work then ? Surely they mean today or wednesday.

Re: Carlos Sánchez
I'd say that if terms have been agreed then the club will want this stitch up asap in case anyone else comes a-sniffing. They just cannot afford another fuck up. As such, I'd expect he'll be jetting in on the next luxury Ryan Air flight.

Re: Carlos Sánchez
I see no reason if the deal is agreed ,for a medical to be as far away as Sunday - unless the player has some personal issues to sort out before leaving?

From the birmingham mail -
Aston Villa target Carlos Sanchez (right) playing for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup
Villa are hoping to make Carlos Sanchez their fifth summer signing.
The Colombian is flying into Birmingham ahead of a medical which could take place at some point today after a fee was agreed with his current club Elche.
They are expected to pay around £4.5million in total which includes a payment to the third party ownership group that controls part of the player’s rights.
Earlier today rumours surfaced that Villa’s interest had cooled, however the move appears to be very much on.
It’s thought that some minor details still need to be ironed out as talks continue but I’m told that today's negotiations went well.
Subject to him passing a medical, and at this stage, there is not one booked, Sanchez is expected to become a Villa player.
There are not likely to be any work permit issues, though.
The 28-year-old has 48 international caps and played for his country four times during the World Cup
His move from the Spanish side, should there be no late problems, will be a big boost for Paul Lambert.
The claret and blues boss has been searching for a defensive midfielder to bolster his ranks ahead of the start of the season.
Sanchez was identified following his solid displays for club and country.
He performed well in Brazil during Colombia’s impressive World Cup campaign and will offer the bite that Villa have lacked in recent years.
Last term Fabian Delph was the stand-out player in the middle of the park but he lacked the support alongside him.
With a player like Sanchez sitting in a deeper role, Delph and co could flourish with the greater protection behind them.
If Villa can land another cash signing it will be exciting news for fans ahead of the season’s opener on Saturday.
Before last week Villa had only recruited three new players - all of them arriving on free transfers.
With Joe Cole missing much of the pre-season schedule through injury, supporters only had Philippe Senderos and Kieran Richardson to check out before Aly Cissokho’s arrival.
The left-back who signed from Valencia is expected to be fit and ready to play against Stoke City at the weekend.

Re: Carlos Sánchez
I would be very pleased with this signing if it comes off, The first real midfield destroyer since George Boeteng who we have never really replaced properly in years..Ok Petrov did a job but not a true destroyer like this guy is meant to be.
Fingers crossed

Couldn't agree more mate, really didn't properly replace Boateng! Hopefully Sanchez will have a work permit by the Newcastle game, these things can drag on for a few weeks.

Re: Carlos Sánchez
Given he had 48 international caps, I think it will be a pretty routine application, but yes Newcastle is the one he'll be aiming for.
Hope he's not a let down like Makoun.

Elche on twitter :
Carlos Sanchez is now in Birmingham, to complete his move. A medical is planned for later.

Re: Carlos Sánchez
I read he's good in the air and loves to play a long ball. His weaknesses apparently are his discipline and passing
We will be he judge of that

Thats not the official Elche twitter page. The official one - so far as I can understand it - hasn't mentioned Sanchez.

I like a tough midfielder similar to Steve McMahon in villa shirt.
