On the plus side at least we'll still have McCormack and (unless United took out a buy-out clause), Hogan. Although Hogan reunited with Smith could work like it did at Brentford, who knows. Anyway, exciting times ahead.
We've been round the loop with McCormack and Hogan already though, they've been surplus to requirements in the championship so what brings them back into our premier league team?
Hopefully not desperation, but neither have proven themselves good enough beyond the championship and both of them had much better days before they joined us.
I was being sarcastic.
Sorry, went undetected.

No need to apologise! I saw a story somewhere that both McCormack and Hogan will get paid more now we're in the PL. Hogan I can still forgive, he worked hard, was just played in the wrong system.
Talking of which, is it my imagination or did Smith start off playing the ball on the ground, working it down the wings or through the middle with Grealish dropping deep to collect, but then changed to long balls and hoofing? Steer's been kicking long for Tammy to lose (he really isn't much good at bringing down long balls, is he?). I was wondering if that's because we need Grealish further up the field rather than being pulled out of position coming back to collect the ball?

Elphick, Adomah and Hutton out the door so far. Good luck to them all, they've done well for us, especially Adomah and Hutton.

Who'd want to be the one to offer that news to them, less than a week after the celebrations? Sad for them but necessary & good that they've got on with it tho.

Re: The summer transfer window
Jedinak all but confirmed that he's leaving as well. To be honest I think they all would have no known that they'd be leaving this summer if we went up, so I don't think they'll be bitter about it or anything. Strange to see all these players suddenly being deemed not good enough for the club.
In other news looks like we're swapping Gary Gardner for Jota from small heath, he's a good player very creative, and in a position where we're desperately lacking numbers.

Tavernier on the cards with plenty rumours swirling about Cahill and Jota too.
I wonder what the GK situation is going to be starting the new season. Jed has been a force for us since January but does he suddenly find himself out in the cold come August? Is Kalinic able to compete at the top level? I would be worried about us relying on him or Nyland to keep the goals out against the Prem's best (and not best, for that matter).

Jota moves from swirling rumour to wet signature, with the deal done apparently.

Daily Star reporting £15m needed to buy Mings.
Interestingly (maybe), Jerome Boateng is reportedly to be sold by Bayern for £20m.

Re: The summer transfer window
With all those players released, and probably a few getting sold too, I'd imagine it's gonna be a very busy summer at Villa Park. For sure we need to address the whole spine of the team. Centre-back pairing, defensive midfielder and a striker who can score at the top level. A left-back and a right winger are also very important too. What certain is to succeed In the prem we're gonna need a solid defense, a midfield who can create and score some goals and a striker who can get us 13-15 goals.
It really is incredible how we managed to have two takeovers whilst In the championship and we could never know the true potential of the owners due to not being In the top league. Now that's not the case so I'm excited to see what transpires now.

Re: The summer transfer window
Jota was a winger under Smith at Brentford, so he must think he's good enough. Apart from that, I know nothing about him. Squad player? Hopefully naturally right-sided.

Players we have who are good enough for the PL and to keep us up at least one season:
Grealish (in fact, I think he's the only player we have who's played for us in the PL!)
Players we have who'll probably be good enough:
McGinn
Taylor (been there, done that for Swansea)
Chester (depending on injury)
Guilbert
Hourihane
Players we'll probably have who'll be good enough:
Mings
Hause
Players we'll probably have who'll probably be good enough:
El Ghazi
Surprise packages:
Hogan (seriously)
Green (but only on the left)
I'd love Steer to do well, and for Kodjia, Audrey and Davis to do well. And especially O'Hare. But who knows?

Re: The summer transfer window
Not sure where to put this but W88 have been confirmed as our new sponsorship partner in a "record breaking deal". Quite what record breaking means in this sense I don't know, but I have to say on a personal level I'm disappointed to see we've been inticed into yet another gambling company's bed.
I know, I know, it's a commercial deal and big money etc. but it's high time this kind of advertising was curtailed in my opinion but such a ban would need to be legislative and I don't believe the [current or possible future] government have the steel for it.

Re: The summer transfer window
Jota looks to me like he would be capable of becoming our David Silva equivalent, if Dean Smith chooses to use him that way. Not so sure about him playing as an out and out winger though.

Re: The summer transfer window
El Ghazi signs on a permanent deal for a reported £8m. Being linked with lots of other players, but I have a feeling that apart from making some of the loan deal deals permanent, a lot of the other signings will come out of nowhere, no one was really linking us the likes of Kalinić, Guilbert, before we signed them, and you could say the same for the Hause, Mings and Carroll.

Re: The summer transfer window
Now Hause signs on a permanent deal, I still think we're going to need a couple more defenders though, Mings and Tuanzebe coming back would be ideal. Talk of Butland as well.

Re: The summer transfer window
It's all very quiet at the moment, has to start hotting up soon, still got a lot of work to do. I'd say we need two defenders, a left-back, a winger, a DM, and forward just for the first team alone.

Re: The summer transfer window
I know he was very good on loan at Fulham when they were promoted, they bid £15m for him last summer which Southampton rejected. Meant to be very good on the ball, and have a very good left foot. Not saying he's as good, but I think he's a similar type of left-back to Luke Shaw.
