Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
Right then guys and galls we welcome Leeds united to Villa Park thursday evening for a 7:45 kick off.
All match chat goes here:
Leeds are one of the leagues form team amd made easy work of Preston the weekend with a convincing 4-1 victory. Gary Monk has them playing good possesion based attacking football.
I am sure they will get a warm welcome from a near capacity villa park crowd, this will be a stern test of our resolve as we continue to try to turn villa park into a fortress.
i am going for a game that we actually start playing as a team and give Leeds a good game with us coming out victorious.
2-1 villa win.

Anyway I hope we see Grealish back at the very minimum. Should MCcormack start too or should Ayew be back in the side with Super Kodj upfront? And should Bacuna play in the middle of the park? These are the decisions Bruce is gonna have to make.

Just hoping for a positive result here...We play to our potential then I'd like to think we would beat anyone in this division so let's hope the players really rise to the occasion now.

Absolutely I'm ok with it. I encourage anyone who wants to start a thread to do so. Especially if they're on a 100% record.

Lets Dream a bit, could this be the game where it all comes together, great games from all the players, the near misses now turning into goals, NO miss placed passes, plenty of possession, Villa Park rocking the fans roaring the team on, smiles all round. It would send shock waves through the division if it did happen against a form team.
Got to go lie down in a dark room now.

To win this fixture will require a performance that we've not yet seen this season. I think we'd have to score more than the one goal to win the game, possibly 3. I think Bruce will go with;

Hutton...........Chester...............Baker..........Amavi
...........Bacuna............Jedinak...........Gardner.......
.......Adomah..............McCormack...........Kodjia....

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
Another must win game. Of course if we lose we still have a chance of getting to the play-offs, but we can't keep failing to beat our promotion rivals, and if Leeds were to win, they themselves will be very hard to catch. It could also affect our January transfer activity.
I don't think we should be scared of them, as I feel overall we probably have the better players, and if Bruce had have been here at the start of the season we'd be above them in the league table now.

sorry i think this might be our first home defeat of the season. Weve been poor latley - but the fixtures have been easy ones and we have scrambled the points.
im going 0-1 away win.

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
Having witnessed the disjointed performance against Burton and seen the togetherness Leeds are currently displaying i fear this could be the game our home record goes sadly. 1-3 loss is what i see but of course i hope i am wrong.
To get anything from this game we need everyone to be on top form and i can't remember the last time i saw that.
Our other hope of course is Leeds have an off day but you just can't see that happening as they'll be right up for this one.
I feel this game will be a big indicator as to whether we can achieve the Play-offs & promotion this season or not, we simply HAVE to win these games against the strong teams above us if we are serious contenders.
Everything crossed we get the win we need so we don't lose touch with Leeds like we have Newcastle & Brighton!

Yeah I agree performance wise.
THOUGH one could argue we've played worse than we are and are due a bounce, and Leeds have played better than they are and are due a loss?
I'm mostly worried about their battling midfielders and our midfielders in general.
I think we can win this if we pack the midfield. Not sure how we should line-up, but we have to pack that midfield.

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
So long as packing the middle doesn't mean the return of AFW!!
Having Baker and Chester gives me some confidence and let's be giving Tish a chance?
As others have said we are due a good performance and they are due a loss?
Fingers crossed!

We're very limited with what we can do with the midfield. With what we have we probably should go 4-5-1, with a lineup of;
.......................Bunn.....................
Hutton......Chester........Baker......Amavi
........Bacuna......Jedinak......Gardner....
...Adomah............................... Grealish
......................Kodjia.......................
It seems Tshibola can't get any game time so I've not included him, then it's a flip of a coin between Gardner and Westwood. With Ayew and McCormack to appear from the bench we do have offensive options. Could it be that Ayew is more effective coming on against tiring legs?

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
I'll be disappointed with anything other than a win today, we can't keep saying that there's plenty of games, at some point we've got to start making a serious dent in the gap between ourselves and the play-off places.
It's usually our rivals who play before us, this time it would be nice for us to get the win and put some pressure on them for a change.

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
Word is Leeds may have a number of defensive problems ahead of the game today. Left-back Taylor, central defender Bartley and right-back Ailing are all said to be out. That's like Amavi, Chester and Hutton being out for us.
Taylor is very highly rated and is out for sure with a young debutant left-back probably coming in. And I just saw a radio interview with a Leeds journo who said Ailing has been very ill over the last few days and is probably out. Then Bartley got a concussion in the last game and word on the Leeds forum is he hasn't travelled with the squad to b6.
IF this is indeed true then our attack really need to go all out tonight because the Leeds defence will be extremely weakened.

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
Leeds are a team in form and we did struggle against burton but Leeds will come to villa park with a completely different game plan than burton.
Burton are fighting for their lives and had their 'day out' at villa park and would have been happy to leave with a point.
Leeds on the other hand are challenging for promotion and they know we are rivals to them so they will come out and try to win the game.
This will play into our hands because we DO have quality going forward and we DO have players who single handedly can change games.
If they underestimate us we could beat them quite easily.
The more I type the more confident I become, or it could be the pre match Stella's kicking in.
Safe journey to all going tonight wrap up, I know I will.

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
If Leeds do have eefensive issues tonight then we really need to take advantage in front of a nearly full Villa Park. If we attack them like we did against BHA in the 2nd half then we should be ok. Hopefully other results will go our way so we can close that gap even more before the transfer window opens. Ive got no idea who will play tonight as we need a strong team to beat Leeds and we have another game a few days later. I just hope Westwood doesnt start as his name on the team sheet has a negative affect on the fans which I'm sure the players could pick up on. Lets get a 6th consecutive home league win and end the year on a high point.

Re: Villa Vs Leeds - match thread
I'd rather see Westwood than Gardner tbh. At least Westwood has legs enough to get around the pitch.
I think the abduction of Tshibola is the weirdest thing I've ever seen following this club. We have the worst central midfield I've seen for 30 years and are screaming out for a box-to-box midfielder and the one we got is left out. It's just ridiculous.

Yeah has to be some reason.Toshiba doesn't get a sniff, he must either be garbage in training or maybe he one-starred SB''s books on Kindle.
AFW I absolutely fucking despair I really do. That's us starting with ten men then.
