"Wealth" is also very difficult to quantify. Recon group for example may be trading at a loss, but it might have very valuable assets. So the company could be "worth" a lot but just not be profitable. For all we know, if the company is backed by other investors then a loss making company part-funded by public money isn't a problem. (think telecommunications before privatisation)
a lot of tech companies - say Netflix - is loss making but very valuable. social media companies like Twitter and Facebook are only realising profit now.
The only way to find out more about the financial position of Recon is to get its P&L and balance sheet - which I very much doubt is in the public domain.
Therefore, we can speculate all we want. Until we see investment in terms of manager, team and infrastructure... no-one is going to any wiser.
Does anyone know when the transfer window officially opens (or is it open already)??

The most probable explanation for him not being on a rich list, is that he isn't that rich (relatively speaking), that doesn't mean to say he's going to be a bad owner though.
Or it could just be that he's completely private about his wealth. Forbes don't actually know about every single Billionaire.

There's a interview with Xia on the Telegraph site.

Cracking article HERE guys with quotes from Xia. Says the scouts will be replaced, downplays the silly accusations about his record, confirms links to the government and has no doubt the FA will not stand in his way. Oh and also pretty much confirms that RDM will be our next manager .
Great read and I must admit I find his personality utterly compelling. There's a confidence about him that I hope spreads through the entire club, including us fans.

In his latest interview it says he prefers to be private about his wealth.

Well we wanted someone to speak & he's recognised it. Also impressed that he's cute enough to mention the scouting.

Yeah, Bob Simpson (Texas Rangers) was linked with us the once, he isn't on forbes, but apparently he's mega rich, just keeps his wealth to himself, as I imagine a lot of wealthy people do.

Anybody else notice that the Doctor appears to struggle a little when speaking English so as not to come across too superhuman and legendary at first so as to put us at ease because we cant speak Chinese and we are not Godlike...... like him.
What a legend, cant wait till the grand unveiling at VP, I suggest we start spreading the word and plan to fill VP for his unveiling to show our support and solidarity.

Agree mate i felt that before from him when the takeover was first happening there is such a confidence and assurance from him like this interview, maybe thats why we got worried cos we have never had an owner be confident good and wealthy before :mutley

going to say this, at this stage with what we know I want Lerner to pull the plug on the deal, stick with Lerner any day over this lot #avfc
LOL you really couldn't make it up could you? "what we know"? The guy is absolutely deluded. He's been one of the fools fear mongering constantly on twitter...his agenda is petty and lacks any substance whatsoever.
Dan beat me to it with the "drinking lead paint" comment but essentially what Ian Robbo is saying here is that he prefers Lerner absolutely nailed on 100% driving this club ever-further toward non-league football than he does taking a chance on a government-connected Chinese guy with some dubious business acquaintances who may or may not have any say over what goes on.
What a mentalist!
I'm deeply concerned over the Samuelson connection as he seems as shady as they come. But right now, I'll take shady over shunammites. I'll take bent businessmen over Bannockburn.
Here's something that no one has yet mentioned though: given his connections to the Chinese Government, do you think Tony will appoint this bloke as his spokesman?

We deserve better than this shit??
all bollox mate, there's gonna be some red faces in the media/forbes, wherever, very soon. like I said earlier, if he is a chancer he will be found out and has made himself an embarrassment to the world. also, I have a Chinese colleague whom doesn't really know anything about football but knows that people everywhere at home are talking about the takeover. I also told him the concerns (not my concerns, just some noses I mean villa fans concerns) he stated that (which I already knew) Chinese people are very honourable and care greatly about their country, if someone like Dr T were to tarnish the country's name or embarrass them it would not go down well at all and just would not happen, certainly not someone whom has high connections with powerful people".
Sorry, I'm still catching up but THIS ^ makes me feel a whole lot better about the involvement of other characters.
Great to read.

Here's that Telegraph article linked to above:

By Neil Connor, in beijing

Aston Villa’s deeply unpopular scouting team are to be the first casualties of sweeping changes at the relegated club, incoming owner Tony Xia said, as he outlined why Roberto Di Matteo has the credentials to take the team forward.
Di Matteo is widely expected to be named the new Villa manager before the end of the week, but while Xia spoke of how the Italian was the ideal man for the job, he refused to say whether a deal had already been agreed.
Xia is happy about the scarf but can't hide his disappointment that he's misplaced his blue vest.
He was more direct, however, on the subject of Villa’s head of recruitment, Paddy Riley, and his scouting team, who have been widely blamed for a dismal season which saw only three games won by the Premier League’s bottom club.
“I think a lot of Villa fans will agree that one thing we have to make much stronger is the scouting team,” he said.
“I think, more or less, the scouting team they had before, they have to take a lot of responsibility.” Asked whether the Villa Park scouts would be dismissed, he replied that there would be “new ones”. Xia also said that he had no plans to rename Villa Park, and strongly denied reports that he was to name it after one of his companies.
RDM found Xia's blue vest and put Chelsea shit all over it.Cheeky git.
He also spoke about how Di Matteo had emerged as the strongest candidate for the managerial position after David Moyes withdrew from the race on Monday.
Former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson and Di Matteo were both being considered because they had experience gaining promotion from the Championship, Xia said.
Di Matteo had emerged as the favourite as he had more experience in the Premier League. More importantly, the Champions League-winning manager could also help the Chinese businessman achieve his dream of raising Villa’s international profile.
“That is maybe the reason that a lot of people say that I am favouring Di Matteo,” he said.
Xia, who was speaking at the head office of his Recon Group business empire in Beijing, said he was also looking forward to taking formal control at Villa.
He said there was “no reason” that he would fail a 'directors’ test’ currently being undertaken by the Premier League and the Football League. “I think there is no way, and not any excuse, that they should turn me down because I am a person who is doing everything legally,” he said.
“I am enthusiastic for the club and I will devote myself to it and I am responsible to take it over. There is no reason they will disapprove of that.”
Xia’s background had come under scrutiny after he was named as the prospective owner for Villa, particularly over allegations that he had fabricated his academic record.
But the Harvard graduate said it was “insane” that such accusations were made.
He said the episode, which blew up in the Chinese media several years ago, had caused him to maintain his privacy – and was one of the reasons why his wealth is not as visible as many of China’s business elite.
Xia occasionally revealed a shy, edgy side as he repeatedly refused to put a figure on how much he is worth, saying the only thing that was important was that he is wealthy enough to be a “responsible” owner for Villa.
He had also attracted attention in the media over his political connections, which he said he developed by advising scores of city mayors across China on planning projects.
“I do have a very good personal connections with all the government officials,” he said.
“But one thing for me, I never get too close with the politics or politicians. I get all my business just by very healthy and legal ways.”
Despite his apparent unease with the media, the 41-year-old said he agreed to speak to the press in recent days as he understands Villa fans and the football world want to know about his plans, which include wanting to replicate Villa’s 1982 European Cup success.

Xia communicates better? He's had to deny he's a crook, told all how much we've got to spend and now publicly courting a crap manager. #AVFC

This season will be first in a long time that we could have actual football people who know how to run a football club on board.
The names on the shirts in the dressing room pic and the Drs interview identifying the problems with the scouting all point to a viable plan. The one thing Lerner lacked.

I like the way The good Dr is daring them to say he has failed the tests.
I feel he has any answer ready to their questions and is willing to out the PL or FA for the merest suggestion of unfit.
Fair play to him at least he communicates.

a viable plan
motivation
interest
business acumen
logic
common sense.....the list is endless.
