Re: Tom Cleverley
Thought he had better days under ts, but still felt there was someting missing from him.

Perhaps this will free up Gardner if he does go.

Re: Tom Cleverley
I just could not care less about Cleverley. He gets around the pitch well and scored a couple of important goals. But if the game is anything less than 100mph he's clueless. For the majority of the time he's been here - including the first couple and last couple of Sherwood games - he's been dog shit.
The only real issue is that he needs replacing in an area where we already needed new faces, so in the big picture it could be seen as a problem. But just purely based on him, I'm absolutely fine with him going elsewhere. Wouldn't have been gutted if he'd stayed, but sure as hell would not have been excited either.

Re: Tom Cleverley
If we'd kept Clev then midfield wouldn't have been a priority as we'd have had our starting 3 plus Sanchez and Gardner, now it is an area we need to spend money on from a limited pot

Re: Tom Cleverley
His heart was never at Villa, we were merely a shop window for him to show off his wares. If a player doesn't want to be at the club then it makes no sense to sign him on a permanent deal. I think he'll do OK at Everton, Martinez will get the best out of him.

Re: Tom Cleverley
It's always nice to get a passable player on a free, and he had a few good games for us - but he's no Delph, Benteke or Grealish.
Rumours of a £50k wage at Everton, Frankly I'm glad Sherwood didn't try and match that.

There's no way in hell that our midfield was complete, even if Cleverley signs. All areas of the team need work. Especially defence.

Midfield was the bottom priority if Clev had stayed

Re: Tom Cleverley
Not bothered by this in the slightest, had 5/6 good games for us, but has been woeful at times too and last 3 games very poor!! Only real plus was he was settled and there was no fee. I think TS only played a diamond to utilise the players we had, this will see that being scrapped imo.
Good Luck Tom and thanks for those 3 goals, couldn't have timed them better!!

He was always destined to go there, no big surprise for me. Thanks Tom and good luck.

I more gutted that the chances of his Mrs, Sitting on my face, have diminished even further.

Re: Tom Cleverley
Beautiful house near enough to Everton, baby on the way and friends and family on call. We would have had to make him a top offer to get him to relocate (they've been living in a hotel all this time) and Villa don't do top offers.
So we move on, but I wonder whether someone can explain to Lerner what a free transfer is, and how it allows you to pay bigger wages to that individual without breaking the bank. A flat wage cap will kill this club.

Re: Tom Cleverley
A bit gutted by this tbh as I honestly thought Sherwood would have got the best out of Cleverley next season and we'd have one hell of a midfielder on our hands, as it is it just seems that he couldn't get away from Villa quick enough and that saddens me as it just shows how average we've become under this clueless buffoon of an owner, I really really fear for the future of our wonderful club if Lerner stays much longer.

Re: Tom Cleverley
You're right Leafs, the media perception of Villa will not change while Lerner owns AVFC. Sadly this means that decent players will not join us while other offers are on the table. With relegation clauses built into all new players contracts, why would a good player risk joining a perennial bottom feeder like Aston Villa?
It was painful to write that, but sadly it's true.

Re: Tom Cleverley
I think people based on just a few performances are giving Cleverley too much credence.
Remember he said only weeks ago that he was ready to sign for us or at least that was the implication so to imply that and then sign for someone else puts him the same bracket as Judas.
Personally I think we've done well to miss out on him and for 50 grand a week we should be able to get someone more dynamic such as Diame at Hull who when fit is a much better impact player with the physicality we need.
