Match thread Wigan v Villa 12.01.2019

Once again we have a game where everyone expects us to win easily, we have brought in reinforcements but I still think this could be a banana skin Wigan played really well at Villa so I'm expecting them to up their game just for us as usual, but I'm going for a tight 1 nil to us.

I have faith. We have a choice of two RBs, Chester and the new boy in central defence and Taylor back fit at LB. That works for me. Maybe even stick with Elphick and Chester in the middle and the new boy at LB. I have faith the goalie will fit in too. It would have been good to have had a DM instead of Whelan (I'd put Bjarnason there for now even though I think he looks great as an AM) but we don't appear to have much choice.

Everyone above us playing each other, presenting us with the perfect opportunity to take advantage make up some ground on the promotion places... Then we waste our golden chance yet again, absolutely gutting.

This week end is we're we can move up the table, looking at the rest of the games. Just hope DS has the team up for it, Tammy to score a hat trick, UTV.

Well that was pathetic, and utterly embarrasing. Starting to wonder if Smith's nothing but a chancer, have seen nothing since the Albion game, to suggest we've improved from Bruce. We look absolutely diabolical.

Worst thing is, we won't look any better in the second half, season's looking to be over with already.

We can't keep hold of the ball for more than a couple of passes, it's tragic. I've lost all hope, in us ever doing anything, no matter who we sign, or bring in to manage us, it's always the same old rubbish on the pitch.

Whelan to goalie and it's a penalty, he really is a rubbish midfielder. I'd honestly rather see the likes of Green and Blackett-Taylor coming in than the wingers we have on loan. It sounds like Tammy has no supply and we can't control the midfield. Lots to do in this window.

Fucking hell, abysmal. We shouldn’t be selling Kodjia, it looks like we should be returning the very expensive Bolasie. Not sure what’s happened in the last month but we’re now not far away from the season being over. Mini crisis mode now in effect.

Season's dead, and Smith probably won't be our manager next season.

The season isn’t dead, it changes our ambition. We’re now looking at nicking 6th spot rather than anything higher. We’re not catching Leeds and it seems we’re simply not good enough as yet for 2nd. Playoffs is our only realistic aim right now. What we’re going to need to do is be good enough come May to challenge in the playoffs.

As I said at the start everyone was expecting us to win this one (me too actually) but to do that you need to put effort and skill into the game we do neither. on paper this squad should be ripping up this league but we all know its not, teams see us come along and really want to show themselves in a good light, them might be in the middle of a slump or whatever, but they are not just going to role over, but this fact seems to pass us by, we seem incapable of getting stuck in and working harder than the opposition and until we start doing this we will just have more of the same, and the only answer is up to the management team MOTIVATION that is the answer MOTIVATION so get on with it. For ourselves we have to stop psyching ourselves up expecting a win and just get behind the team, and boy I know thats not easy.

For ages now, Villa have been poor against "lesser" sides that they are expected to beat.
It's like they think they have a divine right to just turn up and collect the points. Smith needs to give their heads a real wobble ( I exclude McGinn who always earns his wages).
Are El Ghazi and Bolasie on season long loans or can they be sent back?

Looks like DS has lots the players, the last few interviews he has been showing signs of stress, no wonder in charge of this lot, if the senior players do not carry out his instructions then they need to be moved on, or dropped. DS system worked for a few games. Might need to change to another game plan.Terry needs to sort out the defence shocking again, if he is in charge of the defence?
