Villa v Blackburn match thread
Hopefully we lose to a 96th minute, last kick of the game own goal by Gary Gardner after coming on in the 95th minute to waste time. That might just put blues in the relegation zone and make for a happy weekend.

Re: Villa v Blackburn match thread
I see Redknapp has been having digs at us again. I think he's doing it in the hope that if we win, the media will turn around and say it's because of his mind games, i.e that we went out to win to prove him wrong. I'd laugh if we did win today and they still ended up getting relegated; as long as Huddersfield beat them, then it's going to the last day of the season no matter what.
As for us, Bruce is constantly saying that we need to improve our game and in not so many words that we need to become attractive to watch, it's a positive that he's aware of that, and admits it public (most managers aren't that honest), but he really needs to start doing something about it, that manifests on the pitch.

Johnstone, Hutton, Chester, Baker, Taylor, Gardner, Lansbury, Bacuna, Hourihane, Kodjia, Hogan.
Bench...
Bunn, Bree, Amavi, Elphick, Adomah, Grealish, Agbonlahor
Huddersfield have made wholesale changes to their team against small heath
coleman
smith - cranie-hudson-dennis
whitehead-billing
lolly - payne - bunn

Pretty much the back up team I think.

Once again we look dreadful, with no sign of any improvement. Players like Lansbury, Hourihane and others need to be utilized better.

sha are pretty much safe unless everthing conspires against them on the last day of the season. I'm sure if Blacburn or Forest get relegated they'll have something to say about Huddersfield's line-up today, but doubt there's anything that can be done about it, but it pretty much saved sha.
Mind I think we've got more important things to worry about, and those in charge have a big decision to make.

What an absolute waste of a season. We've done well enough to avoid relegation but not enough to feel like we've made any sort of progress. It's been one long preseason for next season.

Yet another dire performance to add to the list of dire performances.
Bruce had better sort things out big time in pre season. I have little confidence that he will.

And now, against all odds, Bristol City have beaten Brighton, which means they'll be on the beach next week.
Small Heath have had all the luck going. Huddersfield securing their playoff spot last week. Bristol City making themselves safe today.
Tbf though, they've made sure they took full advantage of their good fortune, which is all you can do.
More trash talk (surprisingly) from their manager. Lets's face it. We hate him. He hates us. He's only been in the job a week and he's already getting warmed up.
They will stay up and, make no mistake, this rivalry is ON.
Bruce needs to understand this for next season. He's a bit too nice and a bit too 'pro-dogshit', and if he's not careful he'll get turned over by this lot next season.
We need to get some creativity in this side next season, but we also need some steel, cos next season's derbys will be a tougher ask than this season and we need to be ready.

Re: Villa v Blackburn match thread
On Bristol City, I think I'm right in saying that they were already safe before they played Brighton, so them going out and winning yesterday is a good sign, as it points to them not being on the beach despite having nothing competitive to play for, they're well capable of beating sha next week, the trouble is I can't see Blackburn going to Brentford and getting a win...
As for derby games, one of the things I dislike about being in the same divison as sha, is the way the media and sometimes our managers talk as if finishing above them is what's most important to us. Whilst of course it's always good to do so, I always feel our ambitions should lie much higher than that, achieve those ambitions and finishing above them will be a given.
Them losing to Bristol and Brentford and Forest winning is not that much of an outrageous set of results, so who knows what can happen.

Just watched the game. To me it looked like we deliberately tanked it. If we didn't then Bruce & the coaching staff need to be fired!

I have a very strong feeling that the latter part of your statement is true? We had a very strong team out and yet we still witness a very poor performance and demoralizing loss. That is not good enough and for Bruce to witter on with the same old excuses is grating with me for sure!

My thoughts watching it were that we need to be careful the FA doesn't do a bit of sleuthing, particularly in light of how vocal some have been (granted, fans) about losing being no big deal if it gets SHA relegated.

I thought we were just awful. I think performances have been consistently bad. I dont think the FA / EFL will do anything about it. We put out a strong team. If anyone is in for a telling off, its Huddersfield for playing a weakened team. But I dont think they will be in trouble.
Just for the record, I think Huddersfield were well within their rights to make any changes they want.

Bruce or the players couldn't care less if sha are relegated, they want to win, to keep their jobs and collect their bonuses for winning, scoring goals et cetera. If we were to be investigated for yesterday, then we'd have to be investigated for pretty much every game of the season; we just weren't good enough.

It was intended as a light-hearted remark.
