When does the club announce the players not being retained?

We didn't actually release ours last season until sometime in June, I know quite a few of the u23 players have been let go though.
this page on the BBC website lists all the clubs that have released theirs with a link...

Apparently looking to utilize the loan market with players from Chelsea, United and Arsenal being considered.

I get the feeling that Bruce has been told he hasn't got much to spend, him saying that he's gong to have to wheel and deal, and now this about him making use of the loan market.
In other news Amavi has switched player agencies, with the suggestion that it's to help him get a move out of the club.

It ceratinly looks like that, perhaps his job is not that secure?
No loss if Amavi goes, perhaps it might give us some spending money.

Well his job isn't totally secure, in the sense that Wyness has said that there can be no excuses next season for not getting promoted, and there might be a sense of them being shy of giving him too much money in case there's a need to replace him after a bad start, but I think whoever was in charge this summer we'd be cutting back on the spending. Then again for all I know we could end up spending big again this summer.

To be honest the players we already have SHOULD be good enough to get out of this division but up to now they have not shown that they are up to the task which is perplexing and frustating to say the least!

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Well the players are good enough as they've shown at their previous clubs, and they themselves must take some responsibility; but a lot of it's down to tactics, lack of continuity in terms of formations and team selections, meaning it's hard for them to get into any sort of rhythm. Hopefully all that's something that will be worked on the close season. All we can do is wait and see what happens.
What isn't going to work is just signing another bunch of expensive signings making them train hard, throwing them in and expecting us to magically turn into a good team.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I do think we have bought some decent players many of whom we have not seen the best of yet. However we definitely need a few to cover glaring weaknesses so it's a busy summer ahead for sure.
We still look like a bunch of individuals with some obvious weaknesses and some obvious strengths but we don't look like a "Team" at all from what i saw last season, far from it actually.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
So Percy is claiming Bruce has to "sell buy" HERE. With the Moxley also adding his two cents HERE
I thought Wyness claimed we were "Ok" with FFP at a fans meeting? Anyway I did wonder if the board would trust Bruce with the money this summer tbh...and now it looks like they've got the perfect excuse. Because let's remember what "VillansHo" said just a few weeks ago HERE!!...what has changed from then to now? Seemed like they were keen on spending a few bob so maybe they really are having doubts about Bruce?
If that's not the case and it's purely down to FFP then I'd expect a lot of players to be sold. Elphick, Amavi, Richards, Veretout, Gil, Gardner and Cissokho being the obvious ones. That should fetch at least 25m I'd hope.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I always think FFP is an excuse not to spend. Like last summer the belief was we could bounce back and were funded accordingly. it didn't happen and the now the money has dried up for a further push.
Don't buy it being a vote of no confidence in Bruce - hes on a rolling contract so wouldn't really cost that much to get rid of him - most likley reason is that Dr Tony isn't prepared to bankroll another push.
BTW - heard the sponsor isn't groupon and that no deal is yet finalized

The rolling contract ends in October, not now. Moxley insists it's FFP and not about Xia backing off of spending...so we'll see what he has to say.

A rolling 1 year contract doesnt end. It always has a year to run.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Xia's more or less confirmed this on his twitter. With parachute payments I thought we'd be okay for another biggish spend this summer, but obviously not. Makes it all the more galling how much money we've wasted, I'm still hoping that the likes of Tshibola, McCormack and Hogan can come good.
Still could be a big chance for some our youngsters to make more of an impression.

Although, I'm pretty sure that Xia and Wyness spoke about FFP and not being silly with money before last summer's window, and perhaps the winter one as well, and as we know, we still went and spent.
This could be one boring summer, no managerial search, no takeover rumours, and minimal transfer activity, at least incomings anyway; we'll see, I guess.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I have always felt that FFP is a ready made excuse, there are always ways around most things!
In any case it would have been down right foolhardy not to have some plans in place for the eventuality of us not getting promoted this season as it was pretty obvious very early on that it was not going to happen. So funds should have been earmarked for our summer transfer targets.
However giving Gardner a new contract in the middle of the season shows that the people at the top may have changed at Villa Park but the stupidity certainly hasn't!

Gardner should be sold or sacked. Perfect example of an unflushable turd.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Surely with all those players on the books we need to get rid of it shouldn't prevent us strengthening the team anyway? I'd like to know whether it's
A: A Transfer fee issue
B: A Wages issue
C: Both
If it's a Wages thing then we've already trimmed it of Sanchez (Plus 2.5m Transfer fee) Kozak & several U23's .
You can see why Bruce was saying the most urgent issue this summer was to move some of the loaned out players on.
We have out on loan
Sanchez already gone for 2.5m
Gil
Veretout
Tshibola
Gollini
Cissokho
Then we have players we can possibly sell
Bacuna
Richards
De Leat
Amavi
And the option of selling some of our jewels if absolutely necessary
Kodija
McCormack
Grealish etc
So we should be ok i feel but you can see why moving players is priority no.1
As for FFP it's a disgrace in my opinion akin to opening a new supermarket to try to compete with Tesco, Asda & Aldi only to be told you're not allowed to stock it properly even though you have an owner who has the money there ready to buy the stock! How it can be legal i'll never know!

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
If this is all true about having to sell to buy, then I wonder that we might be just as well trying to convince Gil and Vertout to stay, don't think we'll be able to get much better, with the money we'd get for them. Ideally in Gil's position I was hoping that's where we'd go for a real standout signing, someone who can score and get plenty of assists from the wing/inside forward positions, that might be easier said than done now.

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
Another way of looking at this is, after the last few windows where we have been splashing the cash about and prices have gone up when WE ask about a player, now are they being clever and tell everyone we have to sell to buy, so clubs will not think the gravy train has arrived, but anyway we all know we need to get rid of some deadwood, we shall see.

It could equally work the other way and clubs may think we need to hold a 'fire' sale and we are desperate to raise some funds, so get your bargains here!

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I guess we will also now see the true impact of the new TV money. This seasons relegated teams will surely be awash with cash and we won't be able to compete whatsoever in any bidding war.
Hopefully the business we did in the Jan window will come good next season however and that may be one reason we did the business early.
I think we'll be ok but as for a Title challenge i'm not so sure.

Are there any key players that we need to secure on longer contracts? For instance Green?

Re: Summer transfer window 2017/18
I now feel we are a bona fide championship club - ( that gets good crowds)
Bruce isn't great working on a shoe string - my hope was that that with the money and players at his disposal to a greater or lesser extent we could blow other clubs out of the water.
Basically we are on a level playing field with most other clubs in the championship - the advantage most of those clubs have is they have been operating at this level for a while, and although the dust is settling at VP there is still an element of turmoil.
IMO we have to wait it out for a good team to materialise at VP. at the moment we have a few players who feel they could give the premiership a crack (Chester, Kjodia, Jedinak), a selection of players who can hold there own in the championship (lansbury, Horrihaine) and some who are struggling at this level (Johnstone, Hogan, Adomah)
I suppose the glimmer comes from some of the youth players who look like they cut it at this level (Green, Davis, RHM)
But tonight I think we are here for the long haul.....
