There was small print in the Guzan contract too, if fit he MUST be played in all matches against Aston Villa for the full 90 minutes including extra time.

We're a long way from being a settled football side and I can see a few bumps in the road ahead - some of the players we've signed rin very hot & cold - but when you compare it to the Lerner regime where you've a shit squad topped up with the amazing signing of Jordan Bowery then you have to admit for a first windows it's not bad. Not bad at all.

And Tony was tweeted that we'll be getting loan in January to cover us for African cup.

All down to RDM now. I've not looked at the fixture list to see who we've got coming up but I'd expect 12 points from our next 7 games regardless of who we play.

Forest and Brentford at home nxt I think so I'd like 6 points and get winning mentality. Very good window and Xia has proved he's true to his words.  I think we can expect big things frm him and early evidence shows we are very lucky to have him.

Any body know our total spend and what was toons just as interest?

Our total outlay 50 million with 16 million coming in. Nett spend plus £33M

Toons total outlay 55 million with 86 million coming in. Nett spend minus £31 million

Outspent them by £64 million nett.

This, despite both teams benefiting from £40M each in parachute payments

The Doctor has signalled his intent.

Ashley has spent the summer asset-stripping.

He's effectively had 71 Million quid out of the 'Cloob' (as Rafa would call it) and into his bank account, but hey, let's carry on pretending they're the richest club in the EFL. 2016 Summer Transfer Speculation - Page 34 3769219917

I think we have spent about £55m, I'm not sure how much we got back, around £15 to £20m I would guess. I read earlier that if Sissoko went for £30m which he has, then they will have made £31m profit. I think that means that the 12 players they have brought in have cost them £25m. Ok there are some loans, but that works out at about £2m a head. Can't be the highest of quality.

If they do ok then the Geordies will obviously be happy with the fat waiter and forget Mike Ashley exists. But if things go tits up, they'll drown Ashley in an ocean of tears. Especially as he's turned a profit instead of investing.

Sorry but you're not thinking straight. How can you say he's s***? Who you comparing him with ? His stats are decent . As for wanting the club to bring someone in for the future I'm bored with the number of times that old chestnut is used. Ffs we're still applying that to Mitro and he cost a fortune. I wish fans would get this dreamy rosy picture of is being a development club or one that has the luxury to spend developing talent .
We're not . We're having to get stuck in and getting turned over by teams like Huddersfield.
This lad scores goals. He's no mug and knows if amd it's a big if we go straight back up we're going to want younger proven talent but that's for another day.
Benteke prices will now be the norm for anyone half decent in Premiership and our present strike force of Perez, Mitro, Riv et al took out down . Expect changes in the future but for now getting down and dirty buying quick fixes works for me.

I've seen him play several times for Ireland and live a couple of times. His scoring record for Ipswich in the Championship isn't even 1 in 3 and less than that for the rest of his career. 4 goals in 84 games for Sunderland in the PL. Less than 1 in 3 in the League of Ireland . 33 years old and costing £5m. Sorry for not being excited like.

I started a thread with ins and outs and loans out with duration etc. but it was too much work haha. And I really can't for my life figure out how to make good tables in this forum layout.

Post by FoxyAV Thu Sep 01, 2016 9:30 am

Does he mention wanting Gabby to start every match?

I liked Traore too but the good Dr said he only wanted players fully committed to the club, and that wasn't Traore, what was he supposed to do? Gueye was part of the plans and went for money. Perhaps Tom needs to sit down with his kids and explain what a mercenary is.

Moving on, I really thought that while Randy pumped a load of cash into transforming Bodymoor Heath, the academy wasn't performing as an integral part of the club. I really hope Dr X and RDM have a good look at it and how it's run, and concentrate on bringing in some promising talent to develop and making the academy an attractive enough place for them to want to choose over PL clubs. The dire and mostly embarrassing football of the last few years would have put off a lot of people wanting to take their kids to watch matches, kids who could quite easily want to go to see Leicester or pretty much anyone else instead. Revitalising the club in the Championship has to mean a lot more than just the first team, it has to involve a huge push to make the club relevant again.

He has to be a Chav or Sandwell loon on the wind up.

It was the line about returning his season tickets unless we sign someone as exciting as Adama - anyone who makes it onto the pitch for more than 20mins at a time would do!!

How anyone could tell Adama was that 'naturally gifted' from the couple of games he played I will never know? He is certainly no Messi or Ronaldo? He's not as gifted as Yorke or Collymore? And he makes Wilshire look tough?

He was fast but so is Gabby and I think Gabby has a better footballing 'brain'!

We didn't want to sell Gueye and only had to because of the cockwombles in charge of the club when we signed him!!!

Speaking of transfers, spare a thought for poor old Jermaine Jenas whose injuries have taken such a toll on him that he's confused Alex McLeish with Martin O'Neill.

That or he just didn't really give a shit and was only interested in what he was being paid

My loan move to Aston Villa in August 2011 and transfer to QPR in January 2013 were on transfer deadline days too. I joined Martin O'Neill at Villa who had been chasing me for a long time and I was going to be one of the bigger players at the club.

Yes mate that got to me also, that's what makes me think he is on the wind up and a Chav Small Heather or Sandwell dweller, i have never heard so much bollox in all my life, ok Adama was quick but he was always injured and no manager was picking him Tim Black Garde and RDM says something, i just think its a wind up tbh

That list brings back some fond memories!

On a side note, seeing David Farrell's name there - I'm pretty sure he, Brian Small and my brother all got taken on at Villa at the same time, all from the same junior school (Kingshurst). My bro was released after 2 years YTS (as it was in those days), Maybe I'm mistaken and David only went to Villa from Redditch, but I though he was at Villa as a kid as well - can't remember now. Brian Small stayed a while but didn't quite make the grade longevity-wise. The reason I write this is because as well as those three, Gary Shaw was also at Kingshurst Juniors, so it's not a bad supply chain for a little primary school is it? Especially with the 3 I mentioned all coming from the same school class in the same year. They had a bloody good school team for a couple of years lol!
In those days all the apprentices were attached to a professional, my bro was paired with Derek Mountfield who was a great bloke and gave my bro loads of kit - boots the lot. I used to try and nick it all as it had DM written/sewed onto it - my initials. Happy days. Very Happy

Not quite.

Chelsea and West Ham also had higher nett spends.

Still, if you'd told me when we were taken over that we would outspend three quarters of the Premier League, with the new TV money deal in effect, I'd have said you were 'on something'.  Bash

I'm still shocked tbh. I suppose I'm more shocked that the PL clubs didn't spend more. Despite SSN jizzing over the £1.2 Bn 'spent', the total EPL nett spend was just over £700M, and of that figure, £485M was spent by just four clubs.

Nett spending by the other 16 PL clubs was fairly modest (average £15M). That's a surprise to me.

As Joppe rightly said, looked at in isolation Villa's nett spend of £33M doesn't look a lot, (we spent more during O'Neil's first full transfer window around 8 years ago) but, viewed in the context of other clubs in the top two tiers, it's fairly impressive.
