Chief Commercial officer
Charlie Wijeratna has been appointed as Chief Commercial Officer at AVFC. He's a high flyer with a top reputation and looks like a great management addition. Check it out on the Official Site.

Last job was working on Baku 2015 in Azerbajan, who were we linked with regards a takeover recently? This guy is very well connected and a good appointment. All we need to do is stay in the EPL now or him and TF are pointless.

It is really frustrating to see such good, high profile, high performing appointments being made now - they should have been made years ago and not when we're at real risk of being relegated!

Re: Chief Commercial officer
I was told of Charlie W's appointment four weeks ago. It convinced me that we would also be adding the necessary players in the January transfer window, because why would you add high flying revenue getters and then risk screwing up your plans by getting relegated?Villa_Dan wrote:It is really frustrating to see such good, high profile, high performing appointments being made now - they should have been made years ago and not when we're at real risk of being relegated!
I was disappointed by the way we waited until the last day of the transfer window before trying and failing to get a striker. That seemed so unprofessional to me when you balance it against our meticulous researched business appointments.

Re: Chief Commercial officer
Maybe the CCO advised against it? Perhaps he thought we'd be better waiting until the summer before we take on new players on lengthy contracts when we could be playing in the Championship.
If you're advising purely on a business point of view if would make sense.
(not saying I agree with it but just thinking outside of the box).

Re: Chief Commercial officer
Got to say, Charlie boy has a spectacular CV - big 4 trained (KPMG), worked on London 2012 with LOCOG as commercial officer, worked at Spurs before Levy cut him loose (Levy's a master at that - he's the owner's Godson so when difficult questions are asked he ruthlessly just cuts other people down as scapegoats to protect himself), then Baku

Wouldn't have thought player's contracts have got anything to do with this new guy....his role is to raise revenue.
Is the Dafabet deal up this summer?...perhaps any Azerbaijan money may come in the form of mega shirt sponsorship?
He lasted just over a year at Spurs before Levy gave him the bullet, "He paid the price for failing to bring in any relevant sponsorship, although he was granted little more than a year at White Hart Lane", According to the Daily Mail at the time.
Interestingly he stated, "He said he was 'proud' of his work at Spurs in overhauling the brand and expanding in Asia"....think that's where he may well start with us!
I think Spurs had different shirt sponsors for cup games too?

As far as I can remember, Investec were Spurs' 'Cup Sponsor'

I thought Tom Fox was supposed to be the man in charge of getting all this money in ? If he isn't then what is he doing ?

Re: Chief Commercial officer
Not at all. He was Chief Commercial Officer at Arsenal, he's Chief Executive here, which is a promotion in pure terms of position. The fact that he was good at his job is handy, and combined with the new CCO they could make a hell of a team, but it's certainly not his only responsibility.mefromhere wrote:I thought Tom Fox was supposed to be the man in charge of getting all this money in ? Bit underwhelmed to be honest.
We have no assistant coach, the club is facing possible relegation and we are wasting valuable energy on appointing a Commercial Manager.

He's busy sorting out the main side of a football club.......oh wait
Joking aside, VB alluded to the professionalism in off field appointments being at odds with on field recruitment, maybe just maybe that's because one T Fox is in charge of and the other is Lambert's job? Just a thought. To keep it On Topic, Charlie W looks like a good appointment to me. Solid background and a great addition to the team. Does make you wonder just what the hell RL has been doing the last 8 years leaving basically himself and Faulkner (as well as two temp CEO's) running the whole club. Madness, lunacy, sheer incompetence. Pisses me off big time. Now need to ensure the plan stays on course by remaining in the EPL

Re: Chief Commercial officer
I think you're right GM. The difference between Lambert and Fox is that Lambert "THINKS" he knows the best way to do his job (including waiting to the last afternoon of the transfer window before making an important bid), while Fox actually" KNOWS" how to do his job!GadgetMan wrote:mefromhere wrote:I thought Tom Fox was supposed to be the man in charge of getting all this money in ? As for Randy, he's spent the last eight years in La La Land .... Bless him!

I like what our new CCO has to say, and I think he's been coaching Lambert for months - see for yourself - Randy saw him on Youtube & signed him up on the basis of his clear and honest messages.........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfAeMtcURg0

I always thought that you had to have a viable product for a commercial manager to promote, not something sleep walking into the Championship?

Re: Chief Commercial officer
Just read about what he achieved at Baku in 12 months, he sounds decent but I think he needs us to stay up to sell us to sponsors he deems worthy
In that time, he has been responsible for 14 sponsorship deals and announced broadcasting rights deals covering 47 countries.

Getting sponsorships is Tom Fox's bread and butter, so he must really respect this guy. His CV is impressive, almost as impressive as Fox's is.
