Pochettino takes spurs job!

@GaryLineker: Mauricio Pochettino is the new manager of Spurs. Needed to get that tweet out quickly before they fire him.

If that's true then I feel quite sorry for Southampton tried to build on a solid base of players and management and yet again will be picked apart by the bigger clubs to take them out of the game, sad.

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager on a 5 year contract.

The London clubs seem to be advancing at a rate of knots. We were so far ahead of them through most of the 90s and even for some of the 00s. Now they are really far ahead of us.

Not sure this will be a good appointment tbh, not long term anyway, Southampton had a rather poor end to the season and spent a lot of money in the summer, pochetino had a similar record in Spain too

as for Southampton, lets see how they deal with losing a manager and 3 of there best players too

they will suffer

Not convinced he'll be a success there. Spurs is a bit of a poisoned chalice.

They are a bit like us after MON. Kind of at a glass ceiling but a really good appointment could elevate them to another level.

He may not be able to take them any higher, but he's a way better appointment than any we have made since 2010.I still think a better appointment than Houllier and we'd be a comfortable top half side now.

I think he will do well there. He's a good manager IMO.

Pochettino will do well there, given time, but are Spurs' fans willing to give it to him?

Because they are as high as they can go? I think keeping them in the top six would be success at Spurs and that will be hard done.

I think at Spurs the aim is to get into the Top Four. If he fails at that then he'll be gone. It's a tall order for them as there are a lot of good teams striving for that.

I agree, it is so congested there, the best bet for them would be Arsenal slipping out but we say that every year and they always end up there in the end. Plus United will be back stronger next season.

this is why i think pochetino will be a bad appointment for spurs, they always seem to be going for the 'next' big manager, iinstead of just hiring a big manager, santini, Ramos, avb & now pochetino (i could name others but ive had a drink so cant remember them), they hire manager who have had some success in some way or another, but not a box office manager

pochetino will be gone within 18 months i reckon
