We are back at Villa Park after the International break, just before it started we went goal crazy and now after our players had fantastic International games we go again, Brighton are this weeks visitors in front of a sold out crowd. Are we going to pick up where we left off? IMO I don't think we will see masses of goals but we can shade it by the odd goal, our confidence has had a massive boost so I am looking forward to us pressing onwards and upwards, UTV Scarf Waving Scarf Waving Scarf Waving Scarf Waving

3-2 to the Villa. Maupay to stick two past us and make us lament not signing him, but McGinn to score two of his own and Mings to nod one in off a corner.

Our problem with decisions going against us continue.

First they score from a dodgy free kick.

YELLOW CARD
Aston Villa 0-0 Brighton

That looked harsh.

Martin Montoya and Conor Hourihane both go for a full-blooded challenge which the Aston Villa man seems to win cleanly. Referee David Coote has other ideas and books the Irish midfielder for his troubles.

...

21 mins
GOAL - Adam Webster
Aston Villa 0-1 Brighton

From the free-kick, Pascal Gross swings it to the back post where centre-back Adam Webster has pulled off his marker.

Then VAR rules out yet another goal. I want to look at this one on replay.

DISALLOWED GOAL - VAR
Aston Villa 0-1 Brighton

The Aston Villa fans turn from joy to frustration as the referee rules out the goal.

Nothing whatsoever wrong with Conor Hourihane's thumping strike but Wesley's challenge on Mat Ryan in the build-up is the reason for disallowing it.

The Brazilian's arm was raised and after a delay it's ruled out.

We managed to equalise on half-time and Brighton have had a man sent off for a second yellow.

Aaron Mooy's first yellow was automatic for kicking the ball away to stop a quick free kick. There is apparently 'slight' debate about the second. By the sounds of it a 'slight' debate probably means the referee had no choice. If it was obviously wrong the reporter would be writing 'major controversy' and telling us how angry the manager is, which he isn't doing.

Deserved red?
HT: Aston Villa 1-1 Brighton

Steve Sutcliffe

BBC Sport reporter at Villa Park

There’s a slight debate in the press box over whether Aaron Mooy’s challenge should have brought a second yellow.

In real time it looked very much like a deserved card, but on replays it looked like the Australia midfielder was actually trying to pull out of his attempted tackle.

So the ref probably had no choice about sending off Mooy. Hourihane got booked for his apparently good challenge which resulted in a free kick which lead to Brighton's first goal. Hope he stays on the field for the rest of the game.

Fuck me, hope you enjoy the fact we've fucking won it or is the result secondary to your anti-officiating crusade? Laughing

Grealish proving he is the best or certainly on his way to being the best midfielder in English football. Absolutely pulling all the strings, professional and mercurial.

Won it late. Sign of a good team.

As soon as I realised our bad results all correlated with absurd refereeing decisions and general poor officiating I refused to do the team down. That was before our run of two wins. Match thread: Villa v Brighton 19.10.2019 1520050566

We can do better.

It helps Grealish is now playing further forward and I like Hourihane and Nakamba in that midfield.

Good to get the win especially with Man City and Liverpool coming up, really need other results to go our way across those fixutres as we'll obviously struggle to get anything ourselves, as do most teams against City and Liverpool. Eleventh in the table, if it wasn't for the goal against Palace being disallowed we'd be seventh ahead of Tottenham.

The game was tough just as I expected, VAR had a say in it too, but we got the result right at the death, justifiably too IMO, I thought Hourihanes tackle was spot on got the ball the guy fell over his foot and why was Webster unmarked at the far stick not good defending, still we move on to two REALLY tough games with the Dingles in between are we up for it?
