Re: Cyrille Regis
Very sad indeed.
A very intelligent player when I saw him play for Villa, perhaps past his best but led the line superbly!
Sorely missed, RIP

Great man & great player, saw him once one of my mates started chanting Cyrille etc, he smiled & gave him a wave.

Meet him years ago when he just finished his spell with us and he is a real gent! As a young kid I remember him and the 3 degrees! Far too young to die! RIP and an honoury HEITS!

Re: Cyrille Regis
Sometimes football loses a person that was more than the game. Cyrille was one of those people. Always aware of what football had brought him- he was a site sparky before playing at Hayes - he seemed to transcend being a certain player for a certain club. Ronnie Allan who scouted him was so convinced of his potential that he offered to pay the £5000 fee himself. I think it was the measure of the man that no-one - except the racist twats- hated him like you normally would a rival's top striker. For anyone like me growing up in a multicultural area where your mates consisted of black and white kids, his rise to prominence along with the other black lads at west brom, and the effect of two tone coming out of Cov, seemed to indicate perhaps there was a turning point in attitudes, albeit small steps.
Hindsight shows just how much of an effect those early seeds represented and whilst racism is still prevalent the days when terraces chanted n****r, n****r, lick my boots would not only be unthinkable, but plainly illegal nowadays.
I must confess to having a massive lump in my throat when I heard, and if he meant that much to me, Christ knows how it feels to be a black player inspired by him. I guess seeing Dion Dublin in tears on tv tonight before the Chelsea Norwich game answers that.
RIP Cyrille, a proper footballer and a proper man.

Yeah Dion was broken. I rarely get affected by emo crap on the TV, but that was hard to watch.

R.I.P big man. Him and his teammates at Albion are symbolic of how English football has evolved to what it is today.

Very sad about Cyrille, but equally as sad that Whelan wasn't clapping today during the minutes applause...

If true, that is very unfortunate and totally disrespectful!

I don't think he meant anything by it, he looked quite emotional to me, and you could tell that he was lost in thought, paying his respects in his own way.
