In some ways us being relegated is what this club needed.
I think it has definitely been a case of one step back to take two steps forward I think because if we had stayed up I think Lerner would still be here and still not spending money.

True. He was always riding his luck, hoping we wouldn't fall through the trapdoor while he waited for someone to pay way over the odds.
Just about everyone said that it'd be an absolute disaster to be relegated especially with the money on offer this season in the Premier League but, with Tony taking over, dropping down a league and getting rid of the imbeciles that ran us into the rocks was probably the best thing that could have happened.
I hope!

For several of the relegation battles the pressure and anxiety we were put through was getting ridiculous. I really thought relegation was gonna be the end of the world for us but strangely enough so far I've found it very exciting. Anyway can beat anyone in this league and the games come around thick and fast. If we continue to bring in quality and we win tomorrow I can see us really starting to flex our muscles over the next few months.

Think we will beat the dross at home - scramble a few away points here and there.

Saw this on toontastic. Not sure if it's accurate, but interesting nonetheless.

100+ points seem to pop up with regularity. Maybe it's time for it again....hopefully from us!

We'll only get stronger and better as the season goes on. We may struggle slightly for fluidity initially and pick up wins fairly regularly but from February onwards I see the spirit and ability in the squad leading up to a comfortable promotion march come May

I too think we'll have a very strong 2nd half of the season. The key right now is to stay in touch with the top 6.

This is correct, i was a home and away every gamer during that season and remember it well. We got off to a very placid start and were scraping draws, i think we had about 6 games without a win in a row or something crazy and lost to Sha too and all the fans were going mental (remember we were used to winning the League and Euro cup back then and we were now failing to beat 2nd division teams!) Then it all turned and we went up in 2nd place behind Millwall.
Just checked and this was the start to that season...It was stressful!!
Ipswich (A) 1-1, d
Sha (H) 0-2, L
Hull (a) 1-2, L
Man City (H) 1-1, d
Leicester (a) 2-0, W
Middlesborough (a) (LEAGUE CUP) 1-0, W
Sheff Utd (H) 1-1, d
Blackburn (H) 1-1, d
There were 44 games back then though are 46 now
The final table saw Millwall win it on 82 points with a W: 25, D: 7, L:12 record F:72 A:52
with Villa in 2nd place with a 78 point total............W: 22, D:12, L:10 record F:68 A: 41
Thinking about it that actually means that by comparison we have got off to a good start!!
We are currently sat on 5 points after 4 games
By comparison in 1987/88 we were on 5 points after 5 games and only 7 points after 7 games! If you consider we have already played two of the "tougher" away games and are the only team so far to take anything off Huddersfield it is a healthier start than we had back then.

That banner obviously doesn't belong to the bloke in front of it in the tracksuit top otherwise the last line would read "No salad"Trotters wrote:Perspective. This from last season. ...
