Think this is pretty much nailed on now, with Pearson committing himself to Derby and Moyes ruling himself out of the job!

35k per week being reported.
by my ropey calculations thats £1.8m per year ? - must make him the highest paid championship manager - perhaps with the exception of Rafa ?
This is more than we have paid any recent manager I believe ?

Assuming it all goes ahead, I don't have an issue with the manager being highly paid. How many other industries are there where the manager gets less than his subordinates?
I'd hope though, that a contract like that comes with performance clauses. That is to say, no more paying out years worth of contracts for setting the worse records imaginable.

Mcleish and Lambert were both on £2M+ plus according to reports at the time. Wouldn't be surprised if Houllier, Sherwood and Garde were on similar too. So Di Matteo's probably our lowest paid manager for a while, but not my much.

I was just disputing the idea that Di Matteo will be our highest paid manager in recent times.

Didn't realise RDM had been in Rome talking to Lazio about a possible managerial position there - blimey, a basket-case team in the Championship or Lazio........tell you what, either we've offered a load more dosh, or he's impressed with Xia's plans (or more likely both).

Being reported on Sky now that will happen in next 48 hours!
If it true that Xia on his way here let's hope to see both these guys in a pc Friday.

Roberto di Matteo is the new Aston Villa manager and will be assisted by former Chelsea team-mate Steve Clarke.
Ex-Chelsea, West Brom and Schalke boss Di Matteo replaces Remi Garde, who was sacked in March prior to the club's relegation from the Premier League.
Italian Di Matteo, 46, and former West Brom and Reading boss Clarke, 52, have been out of management since last year.
Di Matteo, who guided Chelsea to Champions League success in 2012, was always the first choice of Dr Tony Xia.
The Chinesse businessman, whose takeover of Villa is currently awaiting Football League and Premier League approval, is convinced that Di Matteo will raise Villa's profile in the Championship.

Exciting times fellow Villans - funny how there seems to be a distinct lack of doom mongers on here lately

So glad it's been finalised. I've had confidence in the process, but it's an uncomfortable feeling when your club has no-one running it.

Re: Next Villa Manager - Who WILL it be ?
Will be interesting to see, I certainly feel better with Clarke as his assistant than I would with either of them on there own as they both have a little of what the other lacks so it could be a good pairing, I wouldn't have thought Clarke would have wanted to take a step back into a number 2 role either so they both must think it could really work out too.

Re: Next Villa Manager - Who WILL it be ?
DBH yes no one's running the club? The appointment of a manager and assistant was all completed by the fairies????
I think this confirms the takeover too, especially as Hollis stated this was the hold up??
