How will we do against Leicester?
Re: Leicester v Aston Villa Saturday 10th January 2015
The possession system that we're playing is okay as far as it goes, but it's being played too safely. I noticed with interest this week that Lambert has finally told our midfield that they've got to chip in with goals. He used the words "take risks" which I've never heard him say before. If the message has finally got through from the fans, then today could be interesting.
I would rather lose a match taking risks and having a real go, than play safely behind the ball in order to pick up a point.

Yeah, I mean the truth is, if we lose more matches taking risks and having a go, we'll probably also win more. The thing about that is essentially we probably won't be much better off, but the fans will be more on board. I have very little faith in Lambert to properly turn anything around, but one of the most annoying aspects of his management tenure has been how he manages to make things more difficult for himself than they need to be. I'm actually pleased that we're keeping more of the ball. I am often surprised at the straight up idiocy of comments like, "the possession police". That's just dickish. Every side will get the odd win here and there purely playing on the counter, but the best teams keep the ball and are comfortable in possession, this is proven fact over the entire history of football, there is no debate there, end of discussion.villabromsgrove wrote:The possession system that we're playing is okay as far as it goes, but it's being played too safely. However, until we start being more effective with it, then our possession play is useless. If he's going to get the midfielders 'taking risks' and looking to get beyond Benteke, then great, I'm all for it. We might concede a bit more, but we'll score a few more too; and with Sanchez in there taking up the defensive midfield area, there is no reason we shouldn't be doing this.

I think "risk taking" is part of the success of our top teams. The number of clean sheets kept by the big 4 or 5 clubs is minimal. They back themselves to out score the opposition. We can't expect the same level of success because our players are not as good, but taking risks should win us enough sets of 3 points to finish mid table.

Been looking forward to this one for a while, will be our biggest test since the Swansea game. Haven't seen the team news yet but hoping Lambert sticks Okore in CB. Going for a narrow Villa win today.

Can't see beyond another tedious non event and maybe a draw at best. Instinct says a rejunivnated Leicester may ruffle our feathers and best us by the odd goal. Nice and positive huh?! That's what they've done to me. Incidentally I think a loss today COULD see PL in big trouble....

Like the deluded idiot that i am i have gone for a Villa win. The last month or so they have let me down in my predictions but i am sticking with them. Lambert's got to get them scoring soon hasn't he? So boldly predicting 1-3 scoreline with a Tekkers brace and a Clarke header.

We need the win, if we do not win the away fans will give Lambert a mouth full, and upset the team. So I will go with a win for villa.

It's got to improve second half! How can the players in our squad not play better than this?

Only Cole has made any kind of attempt at a creative pass. Embarrassing. I'd hate to know how many training games end 0-0 !!

We've been very lucky the Leicester have fluffed their chances, should be 3 or 4 down by now.
