Villa in the Community: Your chance to take part in African Adventure

The club's official charity Villa in the Community has teamed up with African Adventures offering supporters a 'once in a lifetime' visit to Keyna in May.

From May 25, 2015 - June 1, 2015, the Villa in the Community team will spend seven days working in schools and community projects in Nakuru and Kericho - and you are invited to join them.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome but U18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There is no upper age limit.

The week-long visit takes place just a day after Villa's final scheduled league match of the 2014-2015 season, and is the perfect way for fans to give something back.

The money raised for Villa in the Community will help fund the club's on-going work in the slums of Kericho along with supporting work delivered locally in Birmingham helping to address issues around education, literacy and childhood health and wellbeing.

And, Ravinder Masih, Head of Villa in the Community, is eager for supporters to enjoy this opportunity.

"Fans have already given us amazing support with our efforts in Kenya through the shirt amnesty," he said.

"However, I have spoken to several fans who said they would like to do more.

"Teaming up with African Adventures gives us a great opportunity to engage fans in further work in Kenya.

"Not only will fans get to embark on a goodwill trip they will remember forever, they'll also be helping provide vital funds to support the work we do in the community right here in Birmingham."

Various voluntary roles are available including community work with children, teaching in schools, community building and multi-sports.

All aspects of the trip will be organised by African Adventures along with fundraising support from Villa in the Community.

And, Dan Mew, UK Development Manager at African Adventures, believes the trip is the perfect chance for the club's supporters and staff to unite.

He said: "Volunteers on this trip will help support our Community Development Pledge, where we have committed to providing schools and youth centres across Kenya with teaching, coaching and community support, as well as development assistance.

"Most of all, fans and staff will have a life changing experience and by the end of the trip will have positively engaged with over 1,000 children with a background far removed from their own."

During the weekend break, the team will embark on an exciting adventure through the Rift Valley, starting at Kenya's second most visited Safari Park before heading north to the equator to stand on both sides of the earth's hemisphere at once.

Anybody interested in finding out more about this exciting opportunity is invited to attend a presentation evening in the Players' lounge at Villa Park [entrance via the North Stand] on Tuesday September 9, at 6pm.

If you wish to attend the event, ask a question or receive an information brochure, please contact Matthew Scott at matt@african-adventures.co.uk or by phone on 02381 780957.
