The Late and Great Brian Clough

Post by Morpheus on Sat Jul 26, 2014 10:42 am

For me just one of the best managers there ever was and just image the havoc he would have caused within the F.A if he had become the England manager.

Here is a great interview where he destroyed John Motson.

It should not be lost on us that the modern equivalent, Jose Mourinho is rated as one of the best managers ever.

There will never be another cloughie - did it at 2 clubs who were not giants of the game either , he took over both clubs in turmoil and achieved incredible success - a true legend  cheers

He was probably way ahead of his own time Eastie. I wonder how he would have reacted under Lerner?

Also, Football was not the closed shop is it today, which just goes to prove how broken it is.

Dont forget Shankley. Took a second division team up and made them a giant that ruled football for years. That will never happen again either.

No, but Peter Taylor was a disaster in Management. Think the two just complimented each other perfectly, and Taylor was a shoulder for Clough.

This was a great interview with two great managers in football trying desperately to be polite when in reality they both hated one another. The interview is in three parts and just brilliant.

My Dad used to tell me how Clough used to fine his players if they argued with the ref', we need to see more of this, players crowding a ref' and spouting off is frankly an embarrassment and needs to stopped, leave that shit to the fans, we can be very harsh to ref's when we want Wink

Cloughy was from an era where respect was handed down no matter from where you came from. If you dont have respect for yourself or others then you have nothing. Good man, just a shame he stopped on a little to long, becoming a figure to ridicule in the end due to his drinking.
