Should we retire Paul Mcgrath's shirt ?
The Respect Of Paul McGrath
I think the #5 Villa squad number should be retired in the name of Paul McGrath, no one will ever match him and the man deserves a place on the legends list of Fifa.
Mods I don't know how to start a poll, if you can get one going on this subject please do. UTV #5

Re: The Respect Of Paul McGrath
nah bit of a silly suggestion there mate. Number 5 is one of the main squad numbers, if it was a number above 11 then maybe, but even then, yes he was great, but id say that sort of recognition should be saved for a player who was involved with winning a lot of cups, not just the league cup in 94 and a second place finish in the league. He also only wore the number for 3 seasons.
A statue on the other hand would be a great gesture. Maybe near the steps of the Holte End.
Maybe for a poll, who would you like to see have a statue outside Villa Park?
- 3 of the European Cup Squad (we won that in 82 don't you know) holding the trophy (Withe, Mortimer, Spink perhaps).
- Charlie Aitken
- Billy Walker
- Paul McGrath
- Gordon Cowans
- Ron Saunders
- George Ramsay

I personally don't believe the shirt should be retired - great player though he was .
I don't feel a statue is apt either for those names above - sorry:(

Re: The Respect Of Paul McGrath
A very odd poll this one, has there been some suggestion anywhere?
I voted no because as stated above, the number 5 shirt is a traditional one (ie; in between 1 and 11) and it would be quite bizarre (IMO) to not have it in the squad!!! Then again, if I had my way, you wouldn't have squad numbers and you wouldn't have names on the shirts
As good as McGrath was, he wasn't faultless, we both missed Exeter away in the FA Cup but the only difference was, I didn't have to be there, I went to Sty Andrews to watch Kiddi beat the scum and he was supposed to be there but was on the piss in Manchester
