@BBCSport: #WBA appoint Alan Irvine as their new head coach on a 12-month rolling contract. More soon.

Re: Baggies appoint Alan Irvine!
Are they skint? How come they couldn't get a bigger name? Is it a budget/wages issue?

I know nothing about this Irvine chap but it does seem a strange appointment. I expected it to be someone I'd at least heard of.

Was moyes assistant at everton for years before he got the job at sheff weds and made a right mess of it getting sacked - since then he's been coaching kids at everton :)
Was also manager at Preston in 2009 before getting sacked after one win in 10- perfect pedigree for the Albion

Re: Baggies appoint Alan Irvine!
Apparently Sherwood agreed to take over if he could bring in his own assistants which the chairman didn't want to there wages so Sherwood backed out, Irvine is just a cheap option with a bad record in management, relegating Sheffield Wednesday & destroying a Preston
They no what they are.

Re: Baggies appoint Alan Irvine!
I've just had a quick flick through Facebook and there's not one single Baggies fan who is happy about this appointment.

Clarks record was pretty poor, in his final 36 games under him they had won 34 points, they just had an amazing start under him with lukaku scoring, once the new manager bounce wore off they were like us under McLeish, and he spent £6million on victor anichebe........

Re: Baggies appoint Alan Irvine!
Maybe, but he is a respected coach, could have turned it around. They aren't really any better without him. Mel didn't do well at all.

Re: Baggies appoint Alan Irvine!
He deserved more time, the Mel appointment was just bizarre, they wouldn't let him bring in his own assistants and had no intentions off letting him sign players, was always going to be a short term manager as I think irvine will, the fans are already against him

Re: Baggies appoint Alan Irvine!
The loss of lukaku was a huge reason for their slide down the table , I think they must be one of the relegation favourites next season.

They have to be. What are the promoted sides like? We can relax a bit if there are three appalling sides this season.
If we can be on 25 points by the new year we should be ok...

There's a phone in with Tom Ross this evening. Would be interesting if I could be bothered to listen to it.

I think qpr and leicester will both spend biggish money - burnley will struggle.
I see hull are in for lescott - did Bertrand go there too?

Re: Baggies appoint Alan Irvine!
Someone texted me a supposed screen shot from Wikipedia about Irvine earlier. It mentioned Albion chairman Jeremy Peace who, in the words of the article, was "confirmed to be tighter than a nuns vagina."
I just checked the desktop version of the article and it doesn't say that though.
