I surely can't be the only one thinking he is fucking shit?

I'd send him back to London asap. Just incredibly poor, and at that he is a huge roadblock for the development of our own players like Doyle Hayes.

Get rid.

Well, he's not an attacking midfielder, he's a defensive player. Until we see him there we won't know if he's any good. If Bruce insists on playing him out of position, taking that place from Grealish and all presumably so he can shoehorn Whelan into midfield then it's Bruce we should be sending back to where he came from (presumably the dole office).

Bearing in mind Bruce is supposed to be a manager is there any chance we can play him somewhere else at the club, like toilet attendant, and get anyone else in to do the managing? Literally anyone.

I bet Onomah will go on to have a much better career than the majority of our players, pretty much every player we sign is better before they join us, and those that leave go on to improve, I think it's pretty staggering when you look at it, someone needs to teach this club how to play football again, so it's a better environment for players to thrive in, years and years of negative dinosaur tactics have had a cumulative affect on us.

Controversial but I’d send Onomah back to Spurs. He has become useless almost, having little impact. On recent performances he will never break into the spurs side.

Er people are claiming he's been "useless", so let's see. He's got FOUR GOALS and one assist for us this season. Let's compare that to some of our other midfielders and strikers, shall we?

Lansbury= one goal and no assists
Grealish= No goals and three assists
Jedinak= one goal and no assists
Whelan= no goals and no assists
Agbonlahor= one goal and no assists
Davis= three goals and one assist
Thor= two goals and one assist
Hogan= four goals and two assists
Green= one goal and no assists
O'Hare= no goals and no assists

And let me add that three of Hogan's goals came in the league cup. So if we judge by the stats, Onomah is only outperformed by Adomah, Snodgrass and Hourihane when it comes to league performances. And yet people want to "send him back" like we can afford to get better? LOL just jokers looking for another scapegoat Very Happy .

Jogs about uninterested and uncommitted. Doesn't close down, doesn't work hard enough. Doesn't care.

He's just incredibly poor. The whole point of having him on loan was surely to add quality to this side. Would be fun to see the thread when we signed him. Everyone was going on about his quality. Fucking hilarious.

Absolutely fuck all chance for him having a career at spurs.

Interesting to see that you compare him To players that have been our injured for some time, or those that have been on the bench for a majority of the season, but the 3 you mention out perform him are he ones that start as regular as he has.

I remember people saying similar of Grealish last season, despite him being our second most productive player. And I'd say Onomah is quite similar to Grealish, in that the talent is obviously there, he just needs to find some consistency, I find it hard to judge any of our players too harshly playing in a Steve Bruce team.

Next season if we're still in this division, we'll be putting up with much worse than Onomah, Gary Gardner might even be back at the club getting a game.

Grealish is a very good player, he just needs to be played in his correct position, which is the one Bruce promised he'd have but plays Onomah in.

Couldn't disagree more. Can't see anything about Onomah that tells me he is a talent (relatively speaking). Grealish you always could. The ball was glued to Jack's feet and he always had the ability to make a killer pass. He lacked physicality, bollocks, directness, shots and determination, but he had something. Fortunately he has taken massive strides this season in terms of directness and physicality which pleases me (as I honestly didn't think he would make it and his attitude pissed me off no end). Onomah I really can't figure out. He doesn't excell at anything and has an awful work rate. Most of the time he is pissing about and you don't even notice he's playing.

I'm pretty sure we would be no worse by replacing Onomah with Hayes.

I am glad that @Joppe has raised a thread for Onomah as I am fed up of seeing him on the pitch in a Villa shirt.

I don’t dispute that he has potential but he isn’t interested in playing for Aston Villa, he just goes through the motions. I reckon he is playing at about 75% of his capability and just waiting till the season ends so he can go back to Spurs.
Basically he is not interested in how well or badly Aston Villa play or if Aston Villa get promoted or not, it is totally irrelevant to him, he has absolutely nothing to prove by being here. He was very nearly in Spurs squad for this season so he will feel that with another season under his belt he will definitely make it next season.

Regarding him being a defensive midfield player, he may well be but Bruce is never going to play him there with Whelan or Jedinak available, only if those two are not available perhaps Bruce might play him there.

In conclusion we don’t need him, as we have enough central midfield players besides the youngsters, so I would also send him back to Spurs.

Regarding Onomah having four goals and an assist, perhaps O'Hare might have had the same impact if he had been given the same opportunity in the same position that Onomah has played in, who knows but at least O'Hare is a Villa player!

Grealish is our best player to sit behind a single striker. If Onomah gets that place back and Grealish is relegated to bench, wing, left back or whatever then we're fucked.

IMO the jury is out on Omahah as how can you judge a young player being played within a side with debatable tactics in multiple positions on the pitch?

That's the thing though isn't it. It's a massive learning curve for Onomah and he will develop. He hasn't probably been used in his best position so it's hard to judge him completely. BUT ultimately he is a loan player at AVFC, and any development he does isn't to our benefit. Which is why it's so utterly moronic to loan young players from the PL.
Loans are shite in general, but loaning youths that will play shite and just use us as a training pitch is utterly moronic.

I'll stick my head out here and say any youth player we sign from Man Utd will be exactly the same. Full of poor performances and errors, then develop from it and AVFC won't benefit one bit.

If we intend on using youths, let it be our own youths. They might struggle and in worst case lose us points, but so does youths from other clubs FFS.

I fucking knew this is how the Onomah signing would end up the second I read his name on here in August.

I almost hate to say I agree with Joppe - but on this I do unless there is an intention to purchase - such as Jonstone, maybe. It has taken Snodgrass how many games to get up to speed and he is a seasoned professional. So why would a youth loanee hit the ground running and be substantially better for us than one of our own kids? He may be getting used to us by May.

I know Lyden is injured at the moment but he has PL experience and plays well wth Doyle-Hayes in the U23s. So if we need cover at the back, we have it. There was a story at the start of the season that Onomah sees himself as a box to box midfielder who can score. I'm not sure we have seen that and apparently Pochitino isn't convinced of that either.

I hope we will seem more of our kids blooded as the season wears on - if not how are they ever going to develop? We can't deny them loans and keep them in the U23s and expect progress.

I think the problem lies in loaning young players from the top teams as they basically have nothing to prove, as they feel that they have already made it as they are associated with a 'big' team and therefore lack the desire or motivation required.

We were linked to McBurnie of Swansea on loan before the transfer window opened, unfortunately he is starting for Swansea at the moment so that is dead but that loan would have been okay as the player had something to prove.

I certainly think it is more important than ever in this day and age to ascertain the player's attitude to the loan and if he really wants to come and not just come because he has been told too.

Onomah was already looking to next season with Spurs at the start of his loan. That's his problem. In his eyes this is a wasted season, not a season for him to prove himself.

When we had Kyle Walker a few seasons back he came with an agenda - to prove his ability. It was fucking frustrating for him to go back to Spurs but it was at least a successful loan for both parties in terms of his performances.

A lot of our youth isn't ready or good enough for the Prem so if we do go up to we'd need to sign players, to play over them anyway so loans don't bother me
