I wasn't sure if we had match threads for cup games and as no one has started one I thought, why not, so here goes.

Looks like Brucie is going to give us a mix of youth and experience so we could be seeing what the future holds for us, It could be what we have been craving, and after the 5 goals in the last game dare we expect a goal glut??????? Dancing Banana Dancing Banana Dancing Banana Dancing Banana

Hogan's injured, Johnston, not allowed to play, and Terry is making his comeback... I'd play Davis up front with Hepburn-Murphy and Green either side of him, O'Hare just behind, and then Onomah and Doyle-Hayes as the two central midfielders.

Hogan worries me as he seems to keep on getting little injuries, he needs to play to get some rhythm and confidence.

Be good to see, at last, some youngsters in the side and I am quite looking forward to it!

Suspect Hogan's injury is more a case of resting him. Even an idiot like Bruce understands the league matches are far more important than some uninteresting cup match.

Happy enough with the line up, should have enough to beat Peterborough.

Glad to see Bree, Green and O'Hare

For those who haven't seen the line up, this is it.

Villa v Peterborough FA Cup match thread DS3MMgTWkAEDplA

So to me that looks like...

.......................Steer........................

......De-leat...Bree....Terry....Taylor.....

................Onomah..Hourihane.....
........................O'Hare..............
..............Thor................Green.....
........................Davis.....................

Looks pretty good. Would have probably liked to see someone like Suliman start alongside Terry tbh but maybe he's not ready yet. One thing that's interesting is Bruce appears to be giving Onomah a game in the defensive midfielder role, a position he excelled in when the England u20s won the world cup. And he's playing alongside Hourihane so maybe he's testing it to see if they click? Let's see.

Still only one up front at home to Peterborough, some things never change!

Why not play the russian alongside Davis?

Despite being 1-0 up, it sounds like Steer is keeping us in the game. Need to do better.

Awful 1st half. 1-0 up but only in it thanks to Steer. 4 or 5 really good saves

Playing O'Hare wide right is ridiculous as he plays centrally for the U23's, still Bruce knows better!

Green nowhere near fit enough to start. Terry should have subbed after an hour .... Going 1-0 was the worse thing to happen we just waited for the flood gates to open - Pboro dominated us. 3-1 is an embarrassment. What this says to see , is despite the hype we have very little below first team level. O'hare was a massive disappointment today .
However what I hoping all day was that our rivals for promotion got draws and replays - which we don't - I don't see this as a good day for us though.
I think SB would have been out the door after this result were it not for the boro and Bristol City wins

Couldn't agree more.

The key to the rest of the season is avoiding injury - because if we have to rely on fringe/youth - well there ain't much there on this showing.

Result won't make one bit of difference to Bruce's future at the club, and his excuse will be the ten changes. For us to lose 1-3 to Peterborough after being 1-0 up should be unacceptable though. We're in very dark times for the club, and I'm struggling to see a way out.

It was an absolute shambles and Boro deserved the win. Playing Bree at the back, In a position that's not his normal one, and having spent so long not playing, certainly wasn't the best idea.

All in all it was just a flat performance by a mishmash of a side that looked like they didn't want to be out there. Happy to see Davis get another goal though. And Terry/Green get some game time under their belts. The fanbase won't be impressed tonight, and Bruce would be wise to keep his mouth shut after gloating after the Boro and Bristol results about "hysteria". But ultimately it's where we are in May that is the be all and end all.

Bree is on a very ropey run - I honestly wouldn't be surprised if thats his last game for us. I certainly can't see him playing for the first team this season

I'm not bothered by this result the slightest. I'm so used to this club being beaten by lower leagues in cups now that I feel partially immune to the humiliation.

However, I find it quite remarkable how I see Villa fans on Facebook pretending Steve Bruce isn't the problem. I swear these people must be watching a different club than me. Maybe the 40 odd matches a year I watch on the telly is actually a different side than the one they watch in the stands.
How the fuck he is not sacked is utterly unfuckingbelievable

People talking about this result not mattering because we have to concentrate on the league, but us losing to Peterborough today speaks to our inconsistency under Bruce, and hardly fills me with confidence that we're going to make a serious challenge for promotion, it wouldn't be so bad if we had played a genuine reserve team, but the likes of Terry, Taylor, Onomah, Hourihane, Davis and Green are all what you'd call first teamers who we will be relying on to beat much better teams than Peterborough.

Result has also killed any feelgood factor and momentum from the Bristol City game.
