Middlesbrough vs Villa 30/12/17
Hutton and Elmo in defence, Jedi and Hourihane in the middle, Onomah with Hogan, Elphick with Chester. Wings the same as usual. Gestede starts, he could be a PITA. How Bruce must wish he had him to bounce balls off.
Unless a live stream or radio link pops up somewhere I'm going to be watching a film and checking the score from time to time. No idea what the score will be but unless Bruce has discovered how to play football I don't think it's going to be pretty.

Oh and I forgot to mention Doyle-Hayes, Audrey and O'Hare on the bench along with Grealish, Thor and some block called Bree I'd almost forgotten was signed to us. Bruce trying to butter up us miserable lot? Let's hope a couple come on and make a case for themselves.

Only thing he can do to make that line-up worse is subbing on Bananason and ignoring the youth.
Anyway, I'm not watching this. Life's too short.

I was going to start a match thread but thought better of it as I don't want to be blamed.
We could get a result today but I would be surprised with anything than a defeat.
Good luck boys.

Onomah injured let's hope it's season long. Sounds brutal i know but if that cuntbruce won't deselect him by choice, then I'll take necessity. I have to see a Villa player taking onomah's position as a head start for when a proper manager takes over. Bruce is never going to drop him so let fate do it.

Audrey apparently did brilliant when he came on. Held the ball up and got involved, much better than Hogan according to people who were there.
Adomah was the difference all game I'm told

Sorry DP but I cannot agree with this at all. Firstly to wish someone be injured for the season? Come on mate, that's not right. Secondly, the bloke might not be ours, but he's scored four goals since his arrival and guess what? Four goals means he's THIRD on the goal tally behind Adomah and Hourihane. So the kid has done his part despite being inconsistent. I'd love to see O'Hare get a chance but the likes of Grealish flatter to deceive imo. I'd actually like us to get a better attacking midfielder in the window and then push Onomah back alongside Hourihane as Josh is more of a box to box player than an attacking midfielder I think.

They seem to do this a lot this season, when the fans are all peed off they get a result no one expected and make things slightly better for a short time, blues did us a favour too so did some of the other results, maybe it aint over till the portly lady sings.

LOL everyone was waiting for me to do it right? But maybe I have great foresight because I purposefully chose NOT to start the thread today as I just couldn't justify it after the five game run we'd just had. I did it earlier in the season and we managed to win so hopefully things will get going now.
As for the game. Well word is it was another absolute stinker but we defended very well and of course Adomah comes up with some magic and Snoddy did the rest. I've seen people piss their pants and jump up and down for Snoddy to get dropped, and yet the man has scored three and has six assists to his name. Him and Adomah are the ones who are keeping us in this fight, and if we can just add a little bit of quality in January then we should be just fine imo.

I don't care much about the win. Flukes happen. But I'd like to know from those who watched it, whether it was all hoofball as usual.

I want to see Onomah alongside Hourihane in the middle, freeing up Grealish to sit in front, but I can't see it happening. Whelan's just been replaced by Jedi, which isn't what we need at all.

Hourihane edge of box to Adomah and a perfect cross for Snodgrass. This is what Hourihane does, not Jedi and not Whelan and definitely not the two of them together. Why does someone have to be consistently crap or injured before Bruce considers trying something different?

Yeah I don't really wish the kid I'll but it's my level of desperation that means I'm feeling a bit extreme. you can quote me all the stats you like but you and I will never know that if O'Hare had the number of starts that Onomah has had that his stats wouldn't have been better. Sorry but we're not a fucking nursery club for the cockneys, we're Aston Villa and we should be growing our own. Not likely whilst the Geordie sugarbag is in charge though is it.

Onomah should never have been signed. That's the thing.
1) he isn't very good.
2) playing him above our own youths will be negative for their progress.
The fact that AVFC has become a McGrath damn training ground for spurs is fucking depressing.
Seems it's in his contract that he has to play. Send him back.
Personally I hope he's out for the season.

Didn’t take long after the ineffective Hogan was taken off for us to score. I was pleased with the performance of Grealish again. Adomah was very good. Traore a danger when he came on, as expected.

Bruce admitted that if Whelan hadn't gone down with illness he was going to at Jedi cb again and stick with Whelan?! Joppes right. Win by fluke.

In other news, Fielding has just got red carded for Bristol against Wolves, hopefully it ends up 1-1 and keeps the pack tight up top; No excuses on Monday what with Bristol losing their main goalkeeper and we have the home advantage.

He (Onamah) has his moments but is very inconsistent - But he does get a fair quota of goals. Grealish lacks end product for me - although I rate him as a player, he seems to spend ages dallying with the ball without actually getting anywhere. I think O'hare has a fair bit to learn as well - at times he is brilliant for u23's other times he goes awol - seems to have one stunning game in 4 at that level, so perhaps no real surprise Bruce isn't pitching him in yet. I wouldn't he imagine he would be automatic pick for any new manager coming in either.

Onomah is also a defensive midfielder, essentially what Whelan would be if he was good at defending and being a midfielder. We may as well play Onomah in goal or up front as striker (oh, wait...) because he's as much an attacking midfielder as Whelan is a good player. I'd like us to try to buy Johnstone in January but not Onomah until we've actually seen him play as a DM, which I can't see Bruce bothering with. Onomah, playing forward of Hourihane, has 4 goals and 1 assist from 1319 minutes this season against Hourihane's 5 goals and 2 assists from 1862 minutes. Snodgrass has 3 goals and 6 assists from 1568 minutes and Adomah has 11 goals and 1 assist from 1630 minutes. Onnomah's stats don't add up and if he is out for any length of time Grealish has to grab his chance while he can. In fact it's becoming more and more Grealish's last chance - he's not forced his way into the team because Bruce has stuck with Onomah (crazy considering Bruce was planning on building the team around Grealish and Kodjia) and he risks being sidelined completely if Bruce is looking at any other attacking central midfielders. Grealish isn't a winger, he plays best in the middle and with Hourihane and Onomah behind him and Adomah and Snodgrass on either side we could have a decent attack with Davis, Audrey or Hogan up front.
And there I was thinking Whelan had been dropped because he is consistently shit. Nope, he was ill and we were going to see Jedi in defence instead of Elphick. It drives me nuts that we have what could be an excellent DM in Onomah played in the wrong place, a waste of space and the opposition's 12th man in Whelan starting whenever he's fit and no space for a Grealish, O'Hare or even a second striker to start in a 4-4-2 when he's on the pitch. Whelan is the key and unfortunately as illness seems to be the only way Bruce will change the starting 11 (unless you're a defender or striker, when it's best to play someone out of position) I do hope (sorry) Whelan is sidelined for a while.
I honestly think Bruce is hobbling the team on purpose. I can't see why else he'd do this to us.

Bruce has said in his interview that if Whelan hadn't fallen ill he'd have started him and kept Jedinak in defence! Is that bloke a moron? Decent away win and he admits that he was going to be a fucking idiot if not for illness???
I'll hold off on praising him just yet as that admission alone has fucked me off

I just can't believe I assumed he'd spotted how shit Whelan was for most of the season and it suddenly clicked that he was directly responsible for giving away two goals in three matches from midfield and Jedi gave away two in one match from defence (did he give away one in the match before too?) so therefore he'd drop Whelan and reward a good display from Elphick by starting him again. Oh no, Bruce has us all for mugs.

Re: Middlesbrough vs Villa 30/12/17
I agree O'Hare has a lot to learn but if you think he has only 1 good game in 4 for the U23s you must be tripping. Virtually every time he plays he's a major contributor and even when he's not scoring he's hitting the woodwork or assisting goals. No idea what U23 match reports you've been reading.smetro wrote:AstonThriller wrote:De Kuip wrote:Onomah injured let's hope it's season long.
