Re: Aston Villa vs Sheffield Wednesday match thread
Wanna bet he moves away from Villa Park and proves to be a better championship midfielder than anything we currently got?

Doing well in youth football is not always the best indicator of who will do well in the first team. Take our 'Next Generation' cup winners for example, most of them are now playing in the lower leagues of England Scotland and Ireland, some are even unattached.

Re: Aston Villa vs Sheffield Wednesday match thread
Very true, but after following Villa for thirty years there's been a general trend where we sell off and release youngsters only for them to thrive in the championship or smaller clubs in general. Whether it's Myhill, Ridgewell, Davis, Albrighton, Clark, Cahill. Obviously most of the young lads listed here didn't cut it cause we expected more as we wanted to be top 4 material. Point is just that maybe we should play more youths before just giving them away. Especially now when we're in the championship.

Re: Aston Villa vs Sheffield Wednesday match thread
Just been looking back at the goals conceded on Saturday.
The first goal, great strike but Reach comes from the left wing to hit it, with Elmo and Whelan just watching him.
The second goal is a calamity:
Firstly Rhodes wanders past Elmo who stands still just watching him.
Samba is nut-megged (it happens)
Hutton plays Rhodes onside
Nobody follows Bannan (i.e. Whelan, who just stands still and ultimately puts his hand up for offside) who would have scored if Rhodes hadn't put the ball into the net as eventually Rhodes and Bannan were both there without a Villa player anywhere near them.
On top of that I have noticed on the highlights that Whelan doesn't actually run he trots everywhere, no wonder he looks so bloody awful watching him live!
I must be a masochistic bastard watching that again even if it was just the highlights!
