I was nearly a Villa hating, slum-dwelling, 12-toed, inbred freak - RIP Dad
I lost dad yesterday.
Just thought I would share the story of how I became a villa fan and almost became a nose.
My dad and his school pals were chatting this was way back in 1945 - Dad wasn't following any team and one his mates persuaded him to go to the next Blues home match - then another mate said 'Blues are away this Saturday, Come down the villa with me instead'
3 generations of the family have attended the villa ever since. Look out for the half time tribute (if its gets done)
RIP Dad - you leave an almighty hole in my life.

Ah shit mate. That's awful news. I am sorry to hear it. I'm guessing from the above he was in his late 80's? Thoughts are with you and your family.
RIP Mr. Smetro Snr.

Sorry about your loss mate - nice little story though - and may many more of your generations keep up the tradition he started.

Chin up mate, your dad saw some of the best & worst times at the Villa, the last few years must have made him mad.
I had a lucky escape in my early years, my granddad used to live in St Andrews Road, and like many Brummies in the 30's & 40's used to go down the Blues one week & Villa the next, he took me to my first footy match which was Blues v Albion, I wasn't impressed, lots of my family were blues fans & kept trying to take me to see the blues, my uncle was chairman of the Blues supporters club for years. But one time my mate said come down the Villa and as soon as I walked into Villa Park I was hooked, I felt right at home as many people have said Villa chooses you, you don't have a choice.
Just remember the times with your dad cheering the team on.

Sorry for your loss I have some villa memorabilia which I cannot pass on to anyone, would like to see it go to a villa family. If you want it can send it on to you.
I went to a brom game, with some brum supporters, when I joined the army, my bests mates were villa fans, the rest was history.

What a sad story, but one that tells of how much enjoyment has been passed down through generations.

Sorry for your loss smetro. My dad too, was a Villa hating, slum-dwelling, 12-toed, inbred freak, as were his 2 sons (my dahlink brothers) Thankfully mum and I saw the light and weren't tempted to the dark side.
Dad was cremated in his scum shirt at the age of 82 even though he spent more time at B6 than B9.
My eldest bro says he was 10 before he realised they weren't called "Birmingham City Nil"
