That's how you take advantage of 10 men Steve.

It's not all doom and gloom, we can definitely focus on automatic promotion at least...... Laughing

Liverpool also 0-2 down at Leicester, just for a shred of alternative perspective.

Normal service has been resumed; Aston villa nil.
One shot on target from us in 90 mins.
It's only the caravan cup and our reserves to boot so let's see how we do against Forest.
I'll be so glad when we appoint a decent manager, I really will.

Well that was pretty dire, still it confirms that we have no reserve CH so if Chester or Terry get injured we will be in trouble!

No excuses for Saturday now, is there Bruce?

you say you don't care mate but you do as do I. The cup may not be our number 1 priority but we hate seeing villa lose - no matter when it is or who against. It's a shame that a year and a half after relegation there is no signs of improvement.

Nah I really don't care. Priorities. This was a nothing game. If we won ok, if we lost ok. I was sat in the Holte end discussing my impending wedding with my mother and best man, and how shite Thor is. I really don't care. Lose in the league and it ruins my weekend, this hasn't even illicited a "meh"

I'm gonna take a qualified guess here and say we looked shite in possession. Hoofed a lot. Had few to none chances. And generally looked like a team without a plan. Am I close?

A winnable home tie, and a chance to build on the win against Barnsley, thrown out the window. I care about tonight's result, and Bruce should pay the ultimate price for it.

If the game was important enough to warrant the manager being sacked then more than 11000 people would have turned up. The Villa fans quite clearly regarded the Caravan cup as worth fuck all

Always good to see the visiting team having more possession. One shot on goal. Let's blame the players and lack of support from the fans and move on to the next league fixture.

The fact that only 11000 turned up is indicative enough in of itself, of what a poor job Bruce is doing, less and less people want to see his poor brand of football, a trend that the club's owners can't allow to continue. Tonight's attendance alone should give Xia something to think about, more so than the actual result.

Bollocks. I'm not backing Bruce but the attendance simply shows how shite the competition is. Wolves are flying and were playing lower league opposition they expected to beat and still only got 12000 (2000 of which were Rovers fans)

This game means nothing. Just accept it and move on.

I wonder if big head mentioned the lines "hysteria", "unbeaten in six" and "shut people up" in his post-match comments tonight? nah? Ok then!!!.

Yes, we all know what the main priority is. But why the f#ck did he have to mess around the with the system again? Why not go 442 ffs? He's just his own worst enemy tbh and it's just pathetic to watch time and time again. And now the bloke has gone and put pressure on himself again ahead of Saturday. Because another poor performance and he's under the cosh.

We can talk about how crap people like Elphick was but when you're only playing once every two weeks then you're not gonna be in good nick, are you? Ross apparently looked interested which was good to hear but all in all it's just be a garbage day all-round.

"Villa have amazing support. If you hung 11 Villa shirts on a washing line five thousand fans would turn up to watch them." - Tommy Docherty.

Maybe the club should try that? Almost certainly the meaninglessness of this stupidly named cup was going to impact the attendance as was the opposition but Bruce is a huge factor here too.

And what a surprise that he abandons a winning formation in favour of a losing one. The club has no way of playing, no style, nothing with any kind of continuity so what is the point in Steve Round?

One shot on goal in 90 mins? At home? Against 'Boro? The rot is deep. And getting worse. Bruce needs half a dozen wins on the bounce in the league to get us to where we need a league-winning average of 2pts/game. His lack of willingness to try and instill any kind of "winning mentality" is disturbing and I can't see him getting 2 wins in a row let alone 6.

Yes it's only a cup game but there's losing with a weakened side and then there's proving to everyone that you're a twat. Bruce has done the latter, in my opinion.

The only thing this game proved to me is that our perceived strength in depth isn't there.

We don't have many other options up front - Hogan looked really poor and while I still back him to come good (under Bruce or someone else) it isn't happening for him, and McCognac didn't do anything. Thor is horrendous and we have very few options on the left. Samba is useful cover but Elphick is a disaster.

The only positions we have decent depth for are RB, CM, goalie and right wing. That's a big concern to me and that does land on Bruce's doorstep and whoever else was responsible for signings.

I've seen a few people come out with comments like, 'I'm glad we don't play this team every week' and similar after last night. As if we're any better in the league, invariably we're rubbish under Bruce, whoever plays.

It takes a special kind of idiot to revert to 451 for this match. The tactic he played actually a very solid one, but unfortunately for Bruce he has no clue how to get it to work.

Ah, so potato head has spoken and now I understand why we lost, thank McGrath  he's explained it for plebs like me: "...if The linesman had done his job properly (in not disallowing Elphicks goal) we could still be in the competition".

Guardian Caravan cup round up, today.

I genuinely don't know what alarms me more, that he actually believe this shit and what's worse expects us to, or that he still thinks the Assistant Referee is called a linesman, which it hasn't been since 1996.

To be fair I preferred linesman cos you could shout "fucking hell lino... ". I'd sound Japanese nowadays if i shouted at the Assistant Referee " Fucking hell ass-o...."

We could be playing Real Madrid for all I care, but when we are playing at our home, we should play to win and that means two strikers up top
