But as I say twelve games ago we were ten points behind Leeds and we are now six points ahead, a sixteen point swing. I can see perhaps Cardiff having a poor spell but if they do are we actually good enough to take advantage?
Potentially a definite yes, but actually I can't see it!

If we are to catch them, then we will have to slowly chip away at those eleven points until we meet them in March, close the gap to six point by then then we'll have a chance to really put the pressure on. But as I said, first task is getting above Sheff U and Bristol. Just praying that they draw on Friday.

It would have been nice to finish above Wolves, just to put their fans in their place, but ultimately as long as we're in the top two then that will do.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
Shame Sheff Utd couldn't hold on, but in the long term, I think it might be a good result for us because Sheff Utd was absolutely battering Bristol when it was eleven vs eleven and were by far the better team. The loss of Fleck is also massive because he'll miss the game at VP. Bristol appear to be a very average side and have gotten a little lucky of late. You never know what can happen but I just don't see them lasting in this race tbh so them taking the points away from Sheff Utd could be a blessing in the end. Sheff Utd are also in a very bad run which will hopefully dent their confidence moving forward.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
Obviously a draw would have been the ideal result, but I think I would have preferred Bristol City to lose if there had to be a loser, as I think they'll take more points over the Christmas period than Sheffield United, who are starting to drop off already, having lost three of the last five, and could drop down to sixth tomorrow if we and Derby win.
That said it was a no lose situation for us, as whatever happened it was going to present us with the opportunity of overtaking at least one of them tomorrow.

Bristol were two down at Hull and being outplayed, then got lucky to get the points. Then they got lucky to get the points yesterday against ten men after Sheff Utd had hit the woodwork four times. I really don't think they will last the distance and Sheff Utd, though struggling right now, are the bigger threat imo. Still, we win today and we're just a point behind them, so no big deal.

Yes we have to win our own games first, and then worry about what everyone else is doing.

If we win and Cardiff slip up on Monday, then it would be a great week for us as we head into a tough run.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
Next season we need to bring in a young manager who likes to play football, and will work with and promote our academy players like O'Hare, Doyle-Hayes, Hepburn-Murphy, Davis, Green and so on, with a couple of decent loans, they'd probably make a better attempt at promotion than the current set up.
Basically fail to go up this season, and our youth, is our only hope of not fading into obscurity, over the next few seasons.

We now need to win the next four fixtures to put ourselves back in contention, and no excuses, there's no such thing as a good draw in our current predicament, it's about time we started helping ourselves.

I'm not expecting it to happen but if Cardiff lose on Monday we've actually closed the gap on the top two. Yes Derby have overtaken us, but we play them next Saturday so have the perfect opportunity to put that right.

Re: Promotion discussion thread
LOL I see the Benfica Wanderers fans aren't happy with their teams lackluster performance yesterday!!!..what did I say about the winter months again? Nuno has been playing the same team week in, week out, and I've got a feeling they are gonna run out of steam very quickly in the next few months.
And btw, that was the fifth time Wolves have played against ten men this season...fifth TIME and three out of the last four games.
As for us. Well you're always gonna get these games here and there under Bruce, aren't you? The good thing is that unlike the Wednesday game, we didn't lose this time. Just have to keep pushing this month, get to January and then assess where we are.

Today's game is almost as important as if we were playing ourselves, if Reading can somehow beat Cardiff, then it would go someway to lessening the misery of Saturday's game.

It is probably just me but I don't tend to worry what other teams are doing, what will be, will be!

We need as much help as we can get, especially with this run of fixtures we have coming up. Can't say I have much hope of Reading winning tonight though, they're the kind of team that Cardiff tend to bully and make light work of.

Results go against us this weekend, and i think we can forget about automatic promotion, ten points will be too big a gap to close on Cardiff, all things considered. Derby is a must win.

Weren't we more than ten points behind Leeds at one stage? Just have to be calm and keep pushing. This weekend will not decide anything, and imo the likes of Cardiff are not that good that they can't lose two or three in a row. There will still be TWENTY-FOUR games left after this weekend, more than half the season left for McGrath sake!!..so no need to panic .
