Post by deadbuzzardalive on Wed Jul 12, 2017 11:13 am

Thought I'd start a thread for the pre-season friendlies, club have announced that they will be broadcast on the official youtube channel, starting with tonights matches against Teford and Kidderminster.

Here's the direct link for Telford:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnhJNgZEyQk

And Kidderminster:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyy8SNJrWSM

There'll be senior members at each match so who knows which is the best one to watch. There'll be highlights available later so I suppose it doesn't matter.

This is apparently the XI for the Telford game...

Sarkic,bree,baker,samba,amavi,adomah,lansbury,vertout,Andre,gabby,keinan,viktor,Mitch,Kelsey,Harvey,cox,ohare,

All these players involved with the Kidderminster game...

Bunn,taylor,Chester,Hutton,Gardner Hogan,abdo,borg Richards hourihane mccormack

Looks like that might be the starting line-up, hope RHM, is involved somewhere.

Thanks. Maybe I'll fire up both laptops and watch pedestrian friendlies in stereo. Laughing

Adomah - Lansbury - Veretout - Green is my preferred midfield four in a 4-4-2.

Five minutes to go, the boy is just in bed and it's time for a beer.

André Green has hit the woodwork AGAIN!

Veretout, Amavi and Green are looking good down the left but with virtually nothing to defend.

Samba looks like he's going to be very good cover for Chester.

Watched the Telford match.

Thought Amavi and Green were excellent. As was Davis up top and O'Hare when he came on.
Samba was well good and fuck me how big is that man? Reminded me of that bloke from the Green Mile movie.

Gotta give it to Bree as well. Thought he was solid.

Gabby wasn't half bad either.

Green is a Premier League level player though. He has to sign a new contract and be first team material.

Flicking between the matches, the youngsters looked really good especially Green, reminded me of Ashley Young at times, also impressed with Davis. Great run by Mitch Clark to win the second penalty as well, every time I see him he looks a good player.

Shame Hepburn-Murphy wasn't involved, presume he must be carrying a knock.

Sounds like McCormack had a good game as well, and put a lot of effort in.

I too watched the Telford match and thought Amavi was the best man on the pitch. It doesn't matter whether he was trying to impress a new club, trying to make a case for starting for us or if he's just like that and tries his hardest (I'm going with the latter), he played well and put in all the effort. He and Green looked great together and I'd like to see them spend some time with Veretout if he and Amavi stay. They didn't really get tested in defence though, which allowed Amavi to have a lot of fun up front with Green. I think Samba deserves to play in a few more friendlies and should be higher up the pecking order than both Richards and Elphick. O'Hare looked good on the right and that's about it, I'm not sure anyone else stood out, although I wasn't paying full attention in the second half. I didn't really see what Lansbury was up to since most of the time we seemed to be playing the ball down our left side. I thought Gabby and Davis were OK but it was more about Veretout and Lansbury's partnership in the middle with our first choice wingers in Adomah and Green than our fourth and sixth choice strikers and half the defence.

I saw flashes of the Kidderminster match, looking forward to the highlights but that team seemed to be about our second choice midfield (good to see Tish back), half the defence again and what could be our first choice strike partnership in Hogan and McCormack. Sure, Kodjia up front on his own with a well packed midfield has to be a contender for our preferred formation but Hogan and McCormack will know they have the first month or two of the season to stake their claim to starting ahead of him. And for me it's one or the other, Kodjia just doesn't play well with a strike partner.

Where Grealish fits into all of this I still don't know. It would be easier if we didn't seem contractually obliged to play Jedi. We're going to have a bloody solid defence and a central midfield pairing of Lansbury and Hourihane should know what they're doing, with hopefully Veretout thrown into the mix.

Incidentally if we do sign Samba, I wonder if we'll see him, Chester and Terry if Bruce does want to play a three-man defence? He looked really good today at everything - positioning, strength, tackling, passing and even piling forward. His height is going to come into play from corners too, and that's going to be a luxury considering how good Terry and Chester are from set plays.

McCormack looked as he always does, which is stocky, but I wouldn't say overweight, he's been in portugal all summer taking part in voluntary pre pre-season, I think so he's in good shape, last season he didn't actually have a pre-season.

I only watched bits and pieces of the Kidderminster match, but from what I saw he was working very hard, and is obviously trying to get himself back on track. Most of the reaction I've seen to his display has been positive.

He has always been big boned?

And some people love nothing better than to criticize and find fault?

It is good to see McCormack is at least trying? I think if he scores one then that could open the flood gates?

I want Kodija to be worried about getting back into the side!

Watched the Kidderminster match a bit later on and Richards really is a woeful player. Hopefully we can get rid of him this window, but I'm not holding my breath.

Pre season friendlies suck and no judgement can be made as they are purely for match fitness.
Saying that I am looking forward to Walsall away, always good for a few beers and a laugh.
