Reckon we should go balls out and bid for Forestieri? I think he is excellent.

I'd sell Gabby and McCormack for a fortune cookie. With Kozak that is 3 out. Get Forestieri in.

Percy reckons we're likely to sign Glenn Whelan and SkySports are claiming Stoke have rejected our first bid of half a million pounds. 33 year old defensive midfielder who played several games in the prem last season, plus still plays for Ireland. So I think it would be a good move tbh. Think him and Jedi will be rotated throughout the season as our results when Jedi didn't play were quite shocking.

Terry could do a job in my opinion though don't see him coming here at all. Unless Cahill his best buddy had a word in his ear and asked him to help us get back?!

i take him all day long.
he does not have the pace for the prem but his reading of the game would take him a few steps ahead of most championship players.

Not sure about this Whelan deal, he'll be 34 in January, probably cost quite a bit in wages and will want at least a two year deal. And to me it suggests that Bruce is going to carry on with his same old defensive ways, I mean if we have both Jedinak and Whelan he's always going to play one or the other, maybe both.

He'd be okay as a replacement for Jedinak, but I don't think we need both of them, I'd rather have one or the other, with a younger more energetic alternative.

Lets say he's a cheap option to replace Gardner? I'd 100% have him on the pitch over Gary fucking Gardner

I'd rather have neither Whelan nor Jedo and play Hourihane and Lansbury and take the approach that attack is the best form of defence.

I don't want Terry based on my brother-in-law and father-in-law's opinion of him, from when the former played with him. He wasn't apparently a particularly nice person, much like Tonev.

Alan Nixon saying that we've begun talks to sign John Terry...

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3780669/john-terry-aston-villa-steve-bruce/?

Think he might be making something out of nothing there, him saying that we need to sell to buy, makes me doubtful as well, as both Wyness and Xia have denied that.

Whilst Terry himself would be a good signing, I'd be slightly worried that Bruce is turning us into a bit of a dad's army, if Whelan was to come as well, with Hutton and Jedinak, already at the club.

I'm not sure what it says about the scouting, either to be honest. We need to put more thought into things rather than just signing players because they were either captains at their last club, had won promotion, or because they're names, and throwing them together and hoping it works.

The Terry situation is a tough one for me. His history with the whole Ferdinand issue, and also what he did to Bridge is worrying. On moral grounds I wouldn't want him here. But, as a player it cannot be denied that he's probably still got a decent year or two left in him and him and Chester in the championship would possibly be the greatest pairing this division has ever seen? So it makes sense.

I also can't help but be excited at how high profile such a move would be for this great club. To temp a player of that stature, down to the championship, would be very impressive tbh. I remember when Chelsea were an also ran side...they signed Ruud Gullit and everything took off from there. High profile name after high profile name followed. IF we do sign Terry then I'd hope it would be a sign of things to come under the Xia regime.

As for Whelan. Saw him play for Ireland yesterday and he looked very decent tbh. Very good positionally, much better on the ball than Jedinak aswell. I think he'd be a very good signing. Who gives a f#ck about the ages of the players signed this summer? The bottom line is are they better than what we have? And for me Terry most certainly is and so is Whelan. The both of them are proven, Premiership performers so what is there to complain about?

We have a good tradition of accepting players in their twilight years.

Did I say 'good tradition' - I meant bad habit.

For me defenders and defensive midfielders wouldn't be a priority; it's on the other side of the pitch that we let ourselves down last season, only Wigan, sha and Rotherham scored less.

Actually thinking about it, the way things are going I wouldn't be all that surprised if Bruce tried to bring Ashley Young back.

Imo the more we strengthen the backline, the better. Yes, the defence were quite brilliant towards the end of the season but can you imagine having a decent keeper behind the likes of Terry, Chester and Taylor? That's a premiership defence all day long. We also definitely need another defensive midfielder because we saw how poorly we performed without Jedi in the side. He's just picked up an knock with Australia aswell so to me that makes getting Whelan even more important.

I'm sure Bruce isn't blind. He'll know we need goals IF we are to get up this season and I'm positive that this will be the area where we strengthen the most. Just gotta have patience.

It looks like we are indeed being linked with George Boyd, and Bruce apparently tried to sign him in January, can't say I know a great deal about him, but if we were to go for a winger, I'd prefer it to be someone younger with a lot pace and energy, and if it is to be an older I'd prefer someone who's been there and done it all - like Young. Not sure if Boyd was all that great in his younger days nevermind now, when he's going to be in decline as a player. It doesn't tell the whole story but looking at his stats over the last five seasons he's only scored fourteen and assisted with ten goals.

Speaking of older players we could go for, I see that Newcastle have said that Darl Murphy can leave, might not be a bad option from the bench.

We are being linked with younger players too... Josh tymon, a left-back at Hull, Stoke and Liverpool are also linked.

Tom Ince is the winger we should move heaven and earth for imo. Scores double figures every year in this division.

I'm surprised we haven't been linked with Ince, Bruce had him at Hull and was apparently very unhappy when he was sold; think I read recently Derby might be willing to accept £10M for him.

But then again Bruce has said on a few occasions that he wants Premier league / international quality which might rule Ince out.
