Match thread: Villa v Ipswich
Well no one else has started a thread and I don't think I've had a crack at being the good omen this season so why not?
I know nothing of Ipswich. Except that Norwich fans hate them. Well when I say nothing, I mean the modern day Ipswich. I recall a bit about them from 1980/81 when the media was wanking furiously over them to win the title. I hated them. John Wark was a proper weird/creepy/deraanged looking bastard and I can't see that age would have done him any favours. In fact wiki seems to think he's morphed into Bruce Grobellaaaaaar....
Fuck me, he looks like the weird uncle that always wanted you to sit on his knee during family bbq's when other family members were too busy socialising to realise his finger was inside you.
Anyway that's all I care to know about them. Oh! They used to be managed by Sir Bobby. But so the fuck what...who really cares? Really?
They play in blue and we all know that shit teams play in blue.
So just going off the above, any team is set for a 4-0 win against these bunch of nobodies (I'm assuming they're nowhere impressive in the league and, quite honestly, I cannot even be bothered to look). So a barn-storming win is likely until we look at our own team. If Bruce Almighty decides to play half the starting XI out of position again and then uses mindwarping substitutes then 3 of those 4 goals will be out of the question. If he confuses the defence by playing every centreback we have then then that's at least one goal to them.
So it's looking like it has 1-1 written all over it. But @gdale1 seems to think we'll get a half decent crowd to see the newbies for their home debut and, whilst Villa have shown in recent years absolutely no compunction about performing for their paying audience of adoring fans, I suspect a few of these new lads might actually have enough of a spine to try harder.
So I'm going for a 2-1 win.

Holy fuck Trotters we bow to your deep research skills haha. I've started some threads in my time but never focused on the paedophilia and masturbation angle.

I'll go with a tight win. It isn't on TV, we are at home, and it can't be as bad as the last 2 games....

We'll lose at home eventually, but I think we'll win this one, in a scrappy game.
This weekend for the first time I'll be looking at the results of the teams below us rather than above, as avoiding relegation is all we've got to play for at the moment.
Sad times but hopefull we can put a run together.

My old man is a tractor boy and he has always told me that Villa are their bogey team, and to be fair I can't remember the last time we lost to them. So I'm going for a "they've started clicking" optimistic 3-1 Villa win. It's sad to say that most predictions these days are based purely on hope rather than any real expectation!

Back to the match. I'm also going for a draw.
Could well see us in front by one or two goals until a goalkeeper error or ridiculous substitutions lets Ipswich back in the game.
I've been conditioned by six years of misery.

I think we will be up for this, there were signs good play last week & Brucie will have ripped into them about being greedy buggers, I'm confident we will see lots of passing and movement, Oh and we have no Grealish to cock things up.

Just read somewhere that Bjarnson played on the right for Basle which makes it even more inexplicable that Bruce has been playing him on the left and Hourihane on the right. So, in case the gaffer is hard of hearing "BJARNSON = RIGHT MIDFIELD ... HOURIHANE=LEFT MIDFIELD ( in a 4 - 1 - 3 - 2) PLEASE).

He played on the left wing in a 442 during all of Iceland's games in the Euros

Re: Match thread: Villa v Ipswich
I hope we don't play five at the back and have Jedinak in a three man midfield, for me that's too defensive especially at home to Ipswich.
On the one hand I want us to play 442 to suit the players we've got, but on the other I want Jedinak to play because until we get better at keeping the ball, we'll need him, but don't think he'd suit 442, as you need both central midfielders to able to use the ball well in that system in this day and age.
Best comprimise would perhaps be some sort of variation on 443, maybe with Kodjia and Green either side of Hogan.
All that said it probably will be 532, and the same team as against Forest, but with Jedinak replacing Lansbury and Lansbury replacing Grealish.
I can't see it but if other results go our way, and we win these next two home games in quick succession, we might find ourselves single digits behind the play-offs, and being considered as having an outside chance again.

I see Ipswich have a few injured players back in time to face us (How typical is that!)
It's a score draw for me with flickers of promise but the usual really annoying bad habits spoiling the day.

We basically need to win our home games because we certainly don't look likely to win our away games!
Going for a squeaky win otherwise the pressure really will start mounting on Bruce!

Jedinak out still injured. Not sure who the best holding midfield player is without him, but we should still be too strong for Ipswich, surely? I'm going for 2- 1 as I just don't trust the defense to keep a clean sheet.

So Bruce has virtually picked the side already when you listen to his press conference from earlier today.

Gonna be interesting to see how that midfield gets on. Really am sceptical about this 352 stuff but hey maybe a major shake up like this can finally get us out of the doldrums? Let's bloody hope so.

OT I know but the noses losing 3-0 to Sheff Wed tonight is both funny and not funny. Great from the POV that the thick sugarbags from St Andrex got drubbed but bad in that it's another 3 pts for SW.

If that really is the team I won't be disappointed as it is the team I would play although Bacuna and Amavi would probably be better in that formation as wing backs however lets not split straws here!
Hopefully I will feel just as pleased come 17:00 tomorrow?

The funniest thing is that blues fans think they're playing wonderful football and are headed in the right direction under Zola.
1 win in 12 with the last game being 3-0. Keep right on, dickheads. Keep right on.
