I'd just go for it and play something like that, and let the opposition worry about us for a change. Only left Amavi out because in that formation we'd probably need full backs who are a bit stronger defensively. I'm not expecting to see that line-up though, as Bruce has said that it was a mistake in midweek, starting too many of the new players and expecting them to gel right away.

That midfield is too weak as was proven in midweek when we actually had an extra player in there, no protection for the back four!

Sheffield Wednesday - but you are right, the gap is still massive!

I don't think it was weak per se, they just happened to have a really poor game on the day, can't write them off straight away.
I think people look at Hourihane's goals and assists and assume that he's an all out attacking midfielder, but he's not, he's equally as good as a defensive midfielder, also Lansbury is a good box-to-box midfielder, they're both capable of playing in a two man midfield together, as long as we take the game to teams and let them worry about us. Also having Taylor and Bree in at full-back will help us a great deal, with regards to the midfield.
Besides if we're going to play a two man midfield, it has to be them two, because Jedinak in that formation would be useless.

Well Derby are losing now. Hopefully we can begin to close the gap on them at least. Still got Wednesday to play at Villa Park as well. Win today and we still have a slight hope.

Ideally Jedinak behind those two would work but he is still injured apparently.
As you say if we play 2 in midfield they have to be the two, just hope in that case it was just a bloody awful day at the office!
Just worried about 2 fullbacks having their first games for us but they should certainly be better than Amavi and Hutton for the future.

Re: Forest v Villa. Sat 4th Feb 17.30. Pre match build up, match thread and post-match hand wringing thread
To be honest, I think our problems are less about formation and more about lack of interplay between our players, if they can't string a few passes together I don't think it matters what formation we play.
The more we keep the ball the less the opposition can do with it, and we should have the quality in the team now, to do that.
As it happens I think we'll probaby play a three man midfield today, perhaps with Gardner in place of Bjarnasson. And an attacking three of Hogan, Kodjia and Green.

Win today and we're 10 behind with 17 left? Achievable.
15 wins I think we need. Doubtful.
Hogan and Kodjia must start banging them in. Optimistic.
I just don't know which one I am!

I haven't got a fucking clue what formation we are playing (Baker LB?) but Kodjia and Hogan up top are at least goal threats

Not sure what's going on there, maybe four four two with Grealish and Bjarnasson on the wings. Bjarnasson can tuck in if we're getting overrun in the middle. Seems like Taylor must be injured and Bruce doesn't trust Amavi at left-back anymore. No strikers on the bench at all, we lack depth in that department, think we should have gone for someone like Bogle or Watkins to give us a bit of depth.

3 at the back with Bree and Thor wing backs? Just as clueless though. Could be playing anything!

id read that as 4-3-3, baker left back, 3 in midfield and grealish and kodjia off hogan. Maybe he has decided he wants to be more solid at the back and let the midfielders be a bit more free.

Zac Clough making his debut for Forest, looks a very good player.

Why have we decided not to play with any left back now?
Well that is certainly different (and shit in my view) but we shall see.
Bjarnason hadn't a clue the other night let alone asking him to cover the left hand side today!
Bruce if this works I will take my hat off to you but I don't envisage watching the second half!
P.S. Baker is NOT a left back so just don't go there!

I don't think we'll play wing-backs. It will either be 442 with Grealish and Bjarnasson on the wings. Or a diamond in midfield with Grealish at the tip, Hourihane at the bottom and Lansbury and Bjarnasson on the sides, Hourihane and Bjarnasson can rotate I guess.
Looking forward to seeing Hogan play.

Absolutely excellent that Hutton and Amavi have been dropped. Other then that. Lets get three points. UTV.

Try as I might I can't feel optimistic about this match.
I think I've been conditioned by our sheer awfulness.

Not great so far but were winning, someone needs to introduce the players to each other and please tell Thor that their goal is behind him.
