Amen, has to make sense. As De Leat played last night, I suppose we are back to Hutton tonight?

It's almost certainly going to be Hutton back in at RB, isn't it? Bruce will go deeper into his bunker with his "tried and tested" crew in the hope of digging in for a draw. It'll be turgid, dour, fucking depressing stuff. Meanwhile the one or two shining stars in the U23s will be sat around wondering what the fuck they have to do to get a break into the first team squad, O'Hare must be completely fucking bamboozled as to what he has to do to make the first team squad. The more I look at the way Villa are "functioning" under Bruce the more it becomes clear we are fucked. I'm actually in despair how this is panning out.

Great results for the boys last night. Really feels like we might be entering a new dawn where our youth prospects are concerned. Just hope they will soon have a manager at senior level who can get the best out of them because the joker in that seat right now has a piss poor record in that regard.

Green ruled out for a couple of months, for me that should mean more of a chance for O'Hare.

As it has been highlighted by @AstonThriller we have no cover for the left hand side and it was perfectly illustrated in the first half last night.

I think Kodjia will fill that role with Adomah as back up (although I would rather see Adomah on the other side in place of Elmo).
O'Hare needs to play in the centre to be effective, just behind Davis in my opinion.

I just put something in another thread but what about Corey Blackett-Taylor? I'm sure I saw him cut in from the left wing to score against Southampton in the U23 match. If he can play there and is good at it then I'd much much rather see him in that position than Kodjia (who Bruce is going to have to play as striker to try to save his neck), Adomah, Snodgrass, Thor, Elmo (!!!) or anyone else.

Tell you what, I'd be inclined to play Doyle Hayes instead of Whelan.

It's absolutely scandalous we haven't signed up Kienan yet. Spending stupid money on average championship players, but too stupid to sign up our best youngsters. Makes my head explode. Xia needs to get his head out of his arse

Young Lion Callum O'Hare has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with us.

It's the young forward's first professional contract with the club and takes him up to June 2018.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Keinan Davis has today (16th December 2016) signed a new two-year deal.

We have got a bit of time then to sort his contract out then.

You'd still want to be getting both of them on long contracts asap though...

I always liked Gary Gardner and wanted to see him do well but the likes of Green, O'Hare and Davis (and I'm sure some more) blow him out of the water. Whatever we think about Bruce, at least when an academy player has played well in the first team (unfortunately in the case of Davis because he'd run out of other strikers) he tries to blend them in. Davis is now up there ahead of Hogan and may have been instrumental in forcing the manager to change to a 4-4-2, pretty impressive stuff for a 19-year-old and that's before you look at how well he controls the ball, brings other people into play, is involved in assists and has now started scoring goals. Hopefully he stays with us a while before the attraction of being Arsenal or Everton's ninth choice striker on better money takes him away.

What it does mean is there are some spaces to fill in the U23s, hopefully Audrey can get fit again and stay that way. Call me sentimental and old fashioned but I'd rather see Davis and Audrey play any day of the week over the likes of McCormack and Hogan*.

*I do really like Hogan. I wish he'd worked out!

As much as I like onomah and think he's a great kid, I'd like to see us making room for O'Hare rather than Josh. In effect were providing a service for spurs and whilst in darker times I was just glad we had onomah as he was one of the few fearless ones who at least looked like they wanted to attack, now things have improved I think we should be looking after one of our own. We should be using this season to develop O'Hare for next year as I'm sure onomah would return to spurs (unless we have a purchase option - then I'd be interested).

Actually it would have been good to have brought O'Hare on the other night instead of Onomah when 3 - 0 up.

Definitely think that our youngsters should get more time on the pitch especially when we now have more confidence.

I'd hate to sell anyone right now, but especially a youth coming through. If there's anything we really need to get back where we belong it's our own youths stepping up. Kienan is fantastic.

Totally agree Joppe - I think you said in the positivity thread about how good the academy lads are and you are spot on - in fact one of the decent things about being in the championship is that it should be a good proving ground for our youngsters as they aren't being thrown into the crucible of the Prem, so if anything we should try to utilise them more than we perhaps normally would if we were in the top flight.

On another note, I noticed that Everton are providing 6 out of the 24 U21 players for England - that's a quarter of the squad! That's the sort of youth strength we need to push for, regardless of what division we're in right now, Villa should be a place where young kids want to go as they can see clear route to first team football.

While we are in the championship we should definitely blood as many of our youth players as possible because when we are back in the PL the pressure will be on especially to start with until we are established again and that will not be the time to blood youngsters.

A typical case in point is Onomah who is a talented youngster but can't get into the Spurs side so he has been loaned out to get game time but as @Joppe84 has pointed out that limits one of our own youth players!

By the way @AstonThriller needs to start the match thread, please!

Yes, spot on @achilles, if @AstonThriller insists on being the twisted thread starter, he's gonna need to start earlier than the night before - I've already put a Bolton comment in another thread!

Thought it was McKirdy and Lyden?
Either way apparently another impressive performance and a stand out role for captain Lyden. I'd really like to see him get a chance in the first team. Very good all round performances from the boys.
No time to post link but player ratings are in the Mail.
