Is SKY a jinx for the Villa?

Post by AstonThriller on Sat Nov 19, 2016 1:45 pm

I wonder?

Lets look at some stats shall we? Very Happy

Since the Luton fiasco these have been our results when we've been live on Sky.

Derby away= 0-0 draw
Forest at home= 2-2 draw
Newcastle at home= 1-1 draw
Wolves at home= 1-1 draw
Birmingham away= 1-1 draw
Brighton away= 1-1 draw

So when you add in Sheff Wed and Luton we still haven't won a single game on the telly. Let's hope this pattern will turn around soon because we're likely to be on telly a great deal more over the next few months.

Since Bruce has arrived the only home game on TV was wolves - and that was after 2 days of training with Bruce.

Weve won away once in a year - and 2 of our televised games since bruce arrived have been away from home.

So if we start winning away or sky broadcast a home game we should end this Jinx !

Another chance to break our duck coming up this Saturday. At present Bruce has a 0% win rate on TV and a 100% win rate on non televised matches

In truth some of those games on TV have been some of the tougher fixtures we'll be facing this season, with this next one at Leeds added to the list. Just have to hope that the added confidence we have now will see us over the line this time.

Another interesting stat that came to me just now. Look at our away games this season and see the pattern.

Sheff Wed away= Sunday on Sky
Derby away= Saturday 5:30 kick off on Sky
Bristol City away= Saturday 3pm not on Sky
Ipswich away= Saturday 3pm not on Sky
Barnsley away= Tuesday game and not on sky
Preston away= Saturday 3pm and not on sky
Reading away= Tuesday game and not on sky
Birmingham away= Sunday game and on Sky
Brighton away= Friday game and on Sky

Out of nine away games thus far we've only had THREE Saturday games at 3pm. And guess what? From what I can see we don't have another Saturday 3pm away game until FEBRUARY!!..bloody crazy.

well seeing as we lost 2 and drew the other Saturday 3pm kick offs, maybe not having another until February isn't such a bad thing

We seem to be jinxed on S£y. Watching that pr(ck Stelling laughing at us today, and then that 'performance' tonight wants to make me puke.

Just reinforces my hatred of Sky!! Always enjoy watching an illegal feed of matches. Infinitesimal difference to Sky, but still gives me a warm glow..apart from once we kick off......

Just stop playing crap football - cameras should spur them not scare them, and I doubt its 'owt to do with Sky. Just not good enough on or off the tele.

To be fair we've been abysmal for the past 18 months whether on Sky Sports or not. It's only since Bruce has come in that we've started to win a few games.

Don't think there's a jinx at all, but what can happen is that it can start to affect the player's mindsets, if the players become aware of it, and it affects their confidence when ever we're on Sky.

The cameras are there whether we're a feature game or not but that run from December '14 is just unbelievable!!!

For me there is a jinx. When you look at the Sheff Wed game...no way should we have lost that. Derby away we hit the bar, had one cleared of the line etc, Brighton away we threw the kitchen sink at them and somehow they survived!!..we simply don't have much luck on the telly these days.

Well we've got a chance to end the run this Sunday. After Saturday's fixtures, it might be a 'must win' game, hopefully the other results go our way though, so a draw might not be so bad.

Next three on sky are QPR, Leeds and Wolves. I think we'll win all three.

Glad we've exorcised this 'jinx' now. We'd hardly won any games at all in recent times previous to Bruce coming in, never mind those shown on Sky. I think it was only a matter of time before that was rectified though.
