January '17 Transfer Window

Reading up on Hourihane, he actually seems to play deeper than his stats might suggest. So I think there would be room for him and someone else, like Lansbury.

Trouble is there will be an host of clubs after him and I'm sure he'll be wanting to be playing the Premier as soon as possible. If no Premier league clubs or Newcastle come in for him, then maybe we'd stand a chance.

Also Tim Spiers of the 'Express and Star' has said on twitter that Wolves want McCormack on loan but we want a permanent deal. I'd be surprised if that were true.

No chance we would flog another striker surely?

Gestede has passed his medical he will sign tomorrow according to Sky.

At least we are being linked to midfielders now! a few weeks ago all we heard was about keepers and RB's with maybe a new striker.

I like the sound of both Lansbury and Hourihane tbh, both would be fabulous and certainly fill me with confidence for the rest of the season! If we get a new GK and RB too happy days!

I read somewhere that they were awaiting clearance from UTDs end for the keeper Johnson?

Some (non) story about us bidding for a young Liverpool lad (Kevin Stewart), but being told "no way".

Otherwise still the usual Rhodes/Hourihane/Lansbury rumours - nothing concrete.

Pat Murphy has said he was told on Friday that Rhodes isn't on our radar.

He's also said that McCormack would be too expensive for Wolves even on loan, because of his wages.

Gestede to Middlesbrough is now official.

Also didn't Uncle Tony say we wouldn't be providing any championship competitors with players again. I would assume this also means on loan.
Lambert only wants mac at Wolves as a translator.

On paper Hourihane and Lansbury would be ideal signings. Both in their mid 20s, both nearing the end of their contracts. It'd be savvy signings, both would have future value to Championship clubs should we gain promotion this season and they prove not quite Premiership level, both would be good players ready for next season if we fail with promotion this season. I'd certainly use the £6m from Gestede to get hold of these two, if we can possibly entice them. The Amavi/Marseille rumours don't seem to be going away, latest talk now placing a £17m fee into the chat. Could Villa be tempted if Amavi indicates he'd fancy a move back to France? It'd certainly have to change Villa's stance given our league position and sailing close to FFP rules in the event of failing to get promoted. Time will tell.

The Rhodes thing is interesting because in MCCormack and Gestede we had proven championship strikers who'd both scored twenty goals in the division. But it hasn't happened here has it? I know the nightmare that is the midfield has played a huge role but lets be honest MCCormack has missed some sitter aswell. The one against Sheff Wed, A couple against Forest, the penalty at Preston, the rebound at QPR etc!!..he just doesn't seem to be confident at all. So if we do get Rhodes we're gonna have to hope and pray that it's third time lucky because he's more than proven himself in the championship.

The rumour at the moment is that Rhodes is going to Wednesday. We need a striker though whether it's Rhodes or someone else. At the moment we only have Agbonlahor, Hepburn-Murphy and McCormack, with rumours that Kozak is about to leave too.

Even with Ayew and Kodjia returning it still seems light when you consider that those two don't really play centrally.

Really wouldn't surprised to see us make a move for Hogan now.

I don't think we can count Ayew as a striker. His record before coming to us didn't indicate a striker, and his record since joining hasn't indicated a striker either. We certainly don't play him as a striker, and I think I'm right in saying he doesn't for his country? Then there's Gabby, he hasn't been a striker for about 5yrs, and RHM is thus far an unknown quantity at this level and should only be viewed as back up at this time. So as it stands we have only McCormack, who hasn't looked able to hit a cows arse with a banjo thus far. We absolutely need a striker signed, preferably one permanently and ideally a loan too.

According to Bruce Villa have 6 centre forwards (now 5 with Gestede gone) so no problem!
Still can't work out how Bruce has arrived at this?

Kozak has joined fc opava apparently so we definitely need another forward coming in. Would love hogan
