can we ever compete at the very top ?

Just watching Chelsea v man u ....boy o boy ! - much as I like the job Bruce is doing can we ever compete at that level again ?
I m sometimes wonder if a tony pullis style survival in the premier league is as good as we can ever hope for...

It comes down to backing and proper out-of-the-box thinking and football will go one of two ways:
1. A spectacular bubble burst or
2. Single person ownership will give way to multi-share, huge corporate or govt backing.
Whilst I don't like the league we're in or a lot of the players, I do believe the club is setting itself on the right path to future success. The foundations, for once, are looking very solid.
