Who should be the next Villa manager? Empty Who should be the next Villa manager?

Post by AstonThriller Tue Feb 14, 2017 9:57 pm

Imo Bruce already has one foot out the door, and with Toon and Derby up next I think the second foot will be following shortly. So, who do we fancy to take over this utterly poisoned chalice that is Aston Villa football club?

Of course there will be familiar names being thrown about like Gary Rowett, Alan Pardew, Dean Smith etc etc. And Rowett's reputation of fixing a broken side and flourishing with the resources given to him is tempting. BUT, wasn't Bruce a "sure thing?" Wasn't RDM "proven" at both the lower and higher levels? Did you know that David Wagner went to Huddersfield in a similar position? Jokanovic the same at Fulham. I personally think it's time to get a coach with a clear philosophy of how they want to play. A "coach" who's actually out on the training pitch and installs his own ideas onto the players instead of having other coaches do it.

I'd go for an outside the box appointment and give Clarence Seedorf the job until the end of the season. I believe he'd come here as managerial opportunities like ours don't come along very often. Being schooled at Ajax, Madrid, Milan etc he'd obviously have a forward thinking way of playing. He's also got managerial experience having managed Milan and in China. It's time to do something different now.

I don't think they will appoint anyone longterm tbh. I think it will be a "until the end of the season" gig. I wouldn't mind Jimmy Floyd Hassellbaink either...just someone different ffs.

NOT Pardew.

Maybe that lad who has turned Hoffenheim into a top German club.

I think Dr Tony needs to consider investing some serious money in the new manager. We haven't really tried that yet.

If that doesn't work then I dunno.

I know this is no help at all but honestly I'm at a loss.  I mean I genuinely have no clue whatsoever and that scares me. I mean seriously I have no idea who could take over that could sort this shite out.
Yeah fuck it, Seedorf why not. The only other suggestion I have is Keith Curle and that's just because I really like what he's doing. In league 2. Yes, I just recommended a manager from L2. Times is tuff.

It's funny, because I had a feeling things would only get worse from here, So today I decided to send the club a list of young managers from abroad who I've kept an eye on and who I believe would install a philosophy at this club that we've never seen before.

This was the list...

Oscar Garcia>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%93scar_Garc%C3%ADa_Junyent

Marcelo Gallardo>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcelo_Gallardo

Clarence Seedforf>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_Seedorf

Fillipo Inzaghi>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filippo_Inzaghi

Guillermo Barros Schelotto>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillermo_Barros_Schelotto

Patrick Vieira>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Vieira

Erik Ten Hag>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_ten_Hag

Gerard Lopez>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerard_L%C3%B3pez

Santiago Solari>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santiago_Solari

Ivaylo Petev>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivaylo_Petev

Barak Bakhar>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barak_Bakhar

Patrick Kluivert>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Kluivert

Torsten Lieberknecht>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsten_Lieberknecht

Hannes Wolf>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannes_Wolf_(football_manager)

Heiko Vogel>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heiko_Vogel

Rikard Norling>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rikard_Norling

Magnus Pehrsson>>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_Pehrsson

Most of them are at inferior leagues than ours but let us remember David Wagner was a Dortmund reserve coach and Stam had barely managed a club either. It's time to roll the dice now. Some might be hard to tempt at this stage of the season but I believe the likes of Seedorf and Kluivert would come. Kluivert is the technical director at PSG but was desperate to manage a club having been Van Gaal's assistant with Holland. He even applied for the Leeds job not long ago.

Post by Trotters Wed Feb 15, 2017 1:01 am

I had a cheeky look on VT and someone has suggested a bloke who hails from Solihull who has done marvelous things in Sweden. Graham Potter took over when his team was in the 4th tier of the Swedish league and currently has them flying in the top flight.

Local connections: check.
Young: check
Proven: check (lesser league but still...)
Fresh ideas: check
Get-able: I'll say check
A gamble: check check checkity check.

But he sounds more exciting than Warburton or Rowett. Bore off with those names.

So I'd like to see someone like Prandelli (experience with BIG teams) or this Potter bloke. Who is the bigger gamble out of those two and Bruce? I think I know the answer!

Now is the time to get a new manager in. He'll have the rest of this season to use as a pre-season to 2017/18. Why wait longer?

I love that Thriller sent the club a list but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an answer. I actually phoned yesterday to ask what happened to the banner (after DBA's question) and waited 27 minutes for someone to pick up the phone and no one did. There must be some kind of way out of here, said the joker to the thief. ....

Unfortunately with Wyness, Little and Round, I'm not sure if we'll take a risk on an unknown, at the best of times, and least of all with us now in a relegation battle. Managers like Pearson, Pardew and Rowett would probably be more likely.

Was curious as to why Wyness retweeted this the other day...

Rewriting a Rangers column at 10pm on a Friday night.
Just like old times.

McGowan is the Scottish football writer for the daily mail and just had a look at the article and it's fairly scathing of Warburton. Maybe we can take from that that Warburton won't be considered.

Blimey this seems a bit previous but I understand why. However I think we should try giving him more time mainly because we haven't tried that for a while? I don't agree with your time frame @Joppe84 but he must be given to the end of the season at least? We have not been good at making panicky appointments in recent years?

We've just lost six of the last seven, the other game being a draw where we threw away a two goal lead to Pretson. Going back twelve games we've only won two games, both thanks to late goals. Even before that for the most part we never looked convincing.

It's not just results either Bruce isn't even showing that he has a style of play that he has us working towards, or any kind of a gameplan, in fact he appears to be making it up as he goes along. He's admitted himself that he doesn't do tactics.

He's shown nothing to suggest he'll get it right.

As it happens I think we'll probably get another one of Xia's tweets today calling for patience.

Don't worry mate, I did get an answer and the list is in good hands Who should be the next Villa manager? 4025243045 .

I also explained my theory about us needing a coach that will change the whole philosophy at the club and finally give us an 'identity' instead of having coach after coach who comes in and plays musical chairs with both tactics and players alike. It's up to them now to do what's right.

Has constantly changing our manager following knee jerk decisions worked for us lately?
Constantly changing managers only causing unrest, clubs end up on a constant merry go round of staff changes, player changes & a constant state of flux.
Promotion was always a tall order, we have to write off this season and give a manager time to lift this curse that seems to engulf our club.

This is a results business, and imo it would be madness to allow these poor performances/results to continue in the name of "stability". There's a good chance that come monday night we'll have lost FIVE in a row and seven out of eight games, when do we say enough is enough?

@VillaBill I think you are right but having patience whilst on the current run of form is difficult? I think Bruce needs to drop Johnstone bring in Bunn and give the defence a bit of confidence in the guy between the sticks? Also we need to set up a formation and stick with it for a couple of games whatever the results? Plus we need Jedinak back and preferably confiscate his passport, he may be the leader we are missing of the pitch?

If I could see a game plan. If I could see improvement. if I could see light at the end of this very dark and very long tunnel then I would be behind Bruce 100%.
The trouble is I can see none of the above.
This season was always going to be about a hard change over, stabilise the club, bring in hungry players and get a team/ formation/game plan that would provide the foundations for a promotion push next year.
Now we find ourselves 2/3 of the way through the season and we have a team full of individuals who look like complete strangers.
Next 3 games will have a massive impact on our season.
Lose all 3 and Bruce MUST go.
Just because we have changed our manager already this season don't mean we have to accept utter shite.
Swansea have struggled all season under 2 different managers so did they accept the fact they were to be relegated from the premier? No! They knew that things were not working so they changed again and now look at them, they may not survive but they are bloody well fighting.
As for us all I say is progress is a slow process but we shouldn't be afraid to change corse if we have to.

Like most of you chaps, I spend my days wasting valuable time trying to solve the mystery that is Aston Villa. I've thought about the manager a lot since the Barnsley game and I honestly think that Bruce is experimenting with the team as the pressure for promotion is no longer relevant.

Much like our football, appointing a realistically gettable manager now would be much like our football, a sideways or backwards move. We must stick with Bruce until the end if the season at least and hopefully give him a shot at next year. That continuity is important, let him experiment and find a winning formula.

For a none successful Bruce future, we need to think more along the lines of our player recruitment policy and strive to get the best possible. No more prospects or journeymen, target a proven top level coach, a talented man manager, a man of honour and integrity, that man for me is on XIa's doorstep, go and make the man an offer he cannot refuse, sell this great club to him, the man for me is Manuel Pellegrini.
