Corruption in football
Seems the Telegraph has been inspired by the movie "Spotlight" and has done a bit of "investigative journalism" into football corruption.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/26/exclusive-investigation-england-manager-sam-allardyce-for-sale/
First cab off the rank is current England manager, Sam Allardyce. He's had a bit of a go at Woy Hodgson and Gary Neville (let's be honest though, he's spot on!) but he's also apparently negotiated a £400k deal to teach the "overseas businessmen" how to get around the FA's 3rd party player ownership rules and slagged the FA for the Wembley redevelopment.
So he's gone.
The Telegraph are also advertising that they have ten hours worth of story to sell including :

The Telegraph began investigating corruption in English football last year after receiving information that specific managers, officials and agents were taking or receiving cash payments to secure player transfers.
Over the coming days the Telegraph will detail how:
The assistant manager of a high-profile football club accepted a £5,000 cash “bung”.
Ten managers were named by players’ agents as taking bribes to fix player transfers.
Two well-known managers discussed becoming ambassadors for the same fictitious firm as Sam Allardyce.
Another high-profile manager admitted his players broke FA rules by betting on their own games but he failed to report it.
A senior figure at a Premier League club helped undercover reporters to formulate a plan to bribe managers.

I should imagine there'll be a few people involved with refereeing that will read the Telegraph this morning and be thinking hard about who they've spoken to in the last few months

Re: Corruption in football
And players betting on their own games COULD be massive.
If they've bet on something like the time of the first throw in, then it's minor (although obviously still an issue). If they've bet on themselves winning then obviously breaking the rules but good on them. If they've bet on themselves losing.....All hell will break loose.
But I've a feeling the Telegraph would have stated that outright so ill guess it's a minor infraction.

Said it for years and was constantly told i was being OTT on various other sites! Tip of the iceberg if you ask me, it's so blatant it's embarrassing.

Re: Corruption in football
Well it seems a few players and managers had bets on Leicester winning the League last year?
Maybe Randy bet his trust fund on us going down??

The whole game is as bent as a Yuri Geller spoon bending competition and always has been. With the amount of cash involved corruption follows hand in hand.

Re: Corruption in football
Allardyce has lost his job according to several journalists (Matt Law and Paul Joyce).

Re: Corruption in football
I actually feel sorry for the bloke. I never wanted him for England manager but it was the job he'd always wanted, the job he'd waited for, and was the most qualified manager out of those the FA considered so he rightfully got the gig on that account. He's now lost his dream job due to causing embarrassment.
He didn't do anything or break any laws. He even stressed that he would need to run everything by his bosses at the FA before agreeing to anything to make sure all is kosher. So he's been canned because it is an embarrassing story, nothing more.
Now we have an England team once again searching for a manager only 2 months into a world cup qualifying campaign

Re: Corruption in football
Looks like he's been hung out by the FA - they must be nervous about further revelations so this 'big decision' is their way of setting a tone of zero tolerance so they wheel out the "No knowledge of all this naughtiness & you can trust us to root it out" quotes.
Should be interesting to see what gets revealed next.

Re: Corruption in football
Apparently Allardyce is just the tip of the iceberg and more people will be losing their jobs. Haven't seen the report myself, but saw someone mentioning before that another five English managers are implicated in the investigation.
Telegraph reporting that eight current/former Premier league managers are being accused of accepting bungs.

Looks like Allardyce's transfer dealing in relation to Morrison to Cardiff for West Ham is also being looked in to. Tip of the iceberg the England thing.

Re: Corruption in football
Hopefully didn't do anything wrong whilst at the Villa. Not sure if we actually signed any players whilst he was here. Then again whatever he's being accused of could be related to something else.
I was just thinking the other day that we never found out what Karsa and Culverhouse did to get sacked, as far as I know they haven't worked in football since.

Re: Corruption in football
There's a list that's supposedly a leak of the other people who've taken bungs, but as far as I can tell it's originated from a spoof website. But people on twitter seem to be taking it seriously. If there's any truth to it, then Black is smallfry in comparison, and there could be some high profile names losing their jobs soon.

Re: Corruption in football
My thoughts are that there no way this is limited to douchebags like Black or whoever else the Telegraph have stitched up.
On the surface, Black was clean. A clueless dickhead but not someone you'd have suspected of being bent. However, we DO have people on board with a shady past.
Of course, if this corrupt behaviour does extend beyond a few folks, we could see some properly big names involved. If it turned out Fergiescum was up to his neck in it, would anyone be surprised? And does anyone think that the FA would even pretend to investigate Man Utd?
These could be dark times for English football.
It could also see the time come that Ellis predicted when football imploded financially and Villa would be in the best possible position to....oh. Oh fuck.

Re: Corruption in football
Jimmy Floyd Hasslebank is now being investigated.
So who is next i wonder. I hope Eric Black is never involved in football ever again.
This is opening a can of worms i know but if a good friend of mine was to right a book there would be a hell of a lot of people in football looking over their shoulders.

Re: Corruption in football
The way these corruption stories stories are going I wouldn't be too surprised to find that all of our playing staff had bet on us to finish dead last after the initial optimism at the beginning of the season where people were tipping us to have a solid season.
It also wouldn't surprise me to find out the season that they are betting on conceding goals in the last 5 mins of matches.
