I think RDM will go with:

Gollini
Bacuna elphick Chester Cissokho
Tish Westwood Jedi Grealish
Mac Kodjia

Personally I'd like to see adomah for Westwood and RH-M on the bench and getting 20-30 mins of game time. In fact - and this would never happen, I'd play ayew for westie instead of adomah. I think if ayew actually learnt to pass he'd make a great AM, but reality is he probably can't learn it and RDM wouldn't play him there. Wonder if it would work though with Ayew at the tip of a diamond, so we'd play:
.....................Gollini
Bacuna Elphick Chester Cissokho
.............. ....Jedinak
Tshibola...............Grealish
..................... Ayew
........... Kodjia       Mac

With at least Richards, adomah, RH-M on the bench

I must admit that I'm not confident about this game. Yes, on paper we look like we have a team who can compete for promotion, so should be able to win this comfortably but we just don't seem to have any luck on match days.

This is the perfect game to kick start our season and as we are aiming for promotion this must be seen as 6 pointer for the promotion spots.

I think we are lacking two things.

A: steel in midfield. When Tshibola is out our midfield is not only powder puff, but it's lacking quality all over. It's like playing with 10 men. When Jedinak AND Tshibola is out it's literally like not having a midfield.

B: It doesn't feel like we have a set game plan. I'm not sure if the squad understands the type of football we're supposed to play. Might just be me, but it just feels off some how. I just hope it's the "we need to gel"- type of thing.

So if we manage to gel and see some familiarity with our game play from match to match, sign a quality CM in January. I'm having us for promotion easy.

I hope to see Adomah today and hopefully a camo by Murphy.

Completely agree.

And I'd like to see RHM for no other reason than as a heads-up to the other strikers that if they become the non-scoring type, then a replacement is waiting in the wings.

I actually think we will win this 2-0 - Im thinking all the hype will lead to a local deby type atmosphere - not much pretty football on view - but reckon we will shade it - think we have a decent record against newcastle...

Team news

Gollini, Bacuna, Amavi, Chester, Elphick, Baker, Westwood, Jedinak, Adomah, Ayew, Kodjia

Subs: Hepburn-Murphy, Cissokho, Richards, Bunn, Gestede, Tshibola, Hutton

Can't say I'm happy with this team tbh. Had the chance to play 433 here but he's bottled it and gone with five at the back again. Westwood still being there is also disheartening. Grealish also dropped from the squad too.

5 at back at home. Looks like 5221. No grealish and Westwood in again. 2-1 loss for me now

It's an ok line-up. Grealish party thing having him dropped?

I'm always dubious about playing 5 at the back but the attacking threat looks more balanced in my opinion.

Looking at the table RDM seriously needs to get a win sooner rather than later. Is he going defensive because it's a tactical thing against certain opposition or is he already in a "I can't afford to lose" state of mind?

To be fair he did play this system a lot at Schalke aswell so for his sake I hope the plan proves to be fruitful.

Our postioning is awful. We are being by passed and played around because our pressure isn't done as a collective. All down to shite positioning. This is a tactics thing. RDM need to figure this shit out soon.

If RDM does ever get the boot (and I hope it never needs to come to that) I swear a contributing factor will be how many different ways he seems to shuffle the team and yet still accommodate Westwood. Just beyond belief, it really is.

Wish we had a clear tactic and idea with our play. Our players look like they have no idea what the general plan is.

Energy and positoning is awful as well, and that's all RDM.

This is dreadful, as soon as we get the ball we lose it straight away.
