Team for the Championship??
So now the Board has had major surgery, surely we now need to focus on the team itself. There have of course been massive challenges this season and players have by all accounts done everything from disrespecting the shirt, each other & the manager to performing badly and not putting in the required effort to arguing with their own fans! A catastrophic mess all told!!
Personally i feel with some squad trimming, Nzog finally having his free holiday ended and some proper football nous on the board and a good strong new manager, coupled with some sensible buying & selling, we actually have a very good opportunity to sort things out!
So who stays? Who needs to go? Who do we need to sign? and what actual team would we all like to see next season?

Re: Team for the Championship??
I've said it before and I'll say it again, we need to do our best to keep Amavi, Okore, Gueye, Veretout and Ayew. Grealish, Cissokho, Clark, Steer, Gardner, Baker and one or two others I think will stay anyway, and I think Westwood will do well in the Championship, but those first five are the ones I think other clubs will want to buy and we should try to keep and build a team round to try to get promoted back up again.
Gestede I think can do a job for us but as has been pointed out, we shoud try to replace him with a striker who isn't just a big blunt tool for the ball to bounce off. I do like him all the same.
Traore we haven't seen enough of but he could be superb for us in the Championship. I suspect he'll be one of the first to leave.
Not sure about Gil, Kozak and Sanchez. Gil just isn't creating assists. Sanchez plays well for 20 minutes then runs out of steam. I'd like to see Kozak do well but it has never worked out for him at Villa, has it?
Guzan, Bunn, Bennett, Richards, Lescott, Hutton, Bacuna (especially Bacuna), Sinclair, Richardson, Gabby (see Bacuna) can all bugger off. Finally we see the back of N'Zogbia.
We need a core of players to build a team round to bring us back up and then try to advance up the Premier League table. There's too much dead wood at the moment.

Okore, Gueye, Veretout Ayew Cissokho Westwood Guzan, Bunn, Bennett, Richards, Lescott ), Sinclair, Richardson, Gabby. especially Bacuna get rid of all add Gestede Kozak as well. these are the players that took us down, I don't rate any of those. start with the young and some astute buying by our new manager who I hope is Moyes

? Clark. Baker. Amavi
? Lydon Gana Grealish
Gestede. ?
Not saying it's a great team, but we have to use the best of what we have. There's a lot Ayew, Traore, Vertout Richards okores who won't stay, there's a lot Richardson, Lescott, Bacuna who we don't want to stay. There's the third pile Westwood Sinclair etc who try hard, but actually aren't very good. I think we have to be careful about throwing in the youth for an entire season. I think there's 5/6 of them who could play 15+ games ( the winger from rusden is lightening). We can't go into the first game of the season with 5/6 making their first team start. Look at the role Barton has played for burnley.

Re: Team for the Championship??
I don't think we can choose who we sell - its not as easy as that - don't forget there has to be a willing buyer..and the players has to want to go.
I think Gueye, Vertout, Ayew - will all depart - as will Michah Richards
I think the bad egg syndrome player is overstated - sure they are young millionaires with time on there hands - but a good strong manager will knock most of them into line. I think managers have been to easy on players in the past....

Re: Team for the Championship??
I'm making my decisions on who to keep based on reports of who has said they want out and who is toxic and needs getting out. So I'd hope to keep; Bunn, Hutton, Cissokho, Clark, Ayew, Gil, Traore, Amavi, Gana, Gestede, Veretout, Sinclair, Gardner, Westwood. I fear that Ayew will be very difficult to retain and that Gana might go too.
That'd leave the likes of Richards, Guzan, Agbonlahor, Nzogbia, Lescott, Okore, Bacuna, Richardson, Sanchez, Kozak etc to go find themselves another home. I fear we may be stuck with Mr Agbonlahor for a while longer. Grealish I would hope be on a contract that cuts his money in half upon relegation, then it would be last chance saloon for him with a season in the championship............unless some mug comes along and offers a good few million for the "potential".

Well if the reports are right we may well seeing the last of Gabby. Smoking drinking, being seen with whores, (if only I could have my life over again ) They might not have to pay Gabby off he might be in line for the tin tack. (sack)

I love the difference of opinion it's what make football interesting.
If it was up to me I'd keep amavi, ayew, Hutton & Grealish.
The rest would be out the door with Gueye first.
Veretout is 50/50

Re: Team for the Championship??
How anyone wants to keep Bunn at the club is a mystery to me. Might be one of the worst Villa keepers I've seen.
Sorry just saw it said Steer. I'm so tried.

I'd keep Ayew, Veretout, Grealish, Clark, Baker, Okore, Amavi and bring in our academy talents.
I'd move heaven and earth to get rid of Gabby, Richardson, Hutton, Guzan, Bunn, Lescott, Richards, N'Zogbia, Gil, Bacuna and Gestede. Bunch of shit players
Westwood is probably ok as a squad player

Baker not doing as good as Gardner but is ok ,Gardner is a class act ,terry will not get a contract at Chelsea , has about two years left as a player, we could offer some incentive, good wage and coaching roll, he's no loser and one can HOPE

Re: Team for the Championship??
Baker has had some good reviews coming out of Bristol.
And Terry is on £150K a week and is 35. He'd have to take a £100K a week pay cut to join us. More chance of Bob Hope with that one!!

The last info I got from Forest fans they found Gardner bang average. Maybe we should aim for better footballers?

Re: Team for the Championship??
Ok here's my take on it... written after another par for the course slaughter at home against a poor Chelsea team.
.................New GK.(None of the keepers here are up to scratch)
New RB/New RB.........Okore/New CB.....Clark/Baker.....Amavi/Cissokho
Adama/New RM........New CM.........New CM...........New LM
......................New Striker............New Striker
The only others i would be bothered about keeping purely as back up squad players are
Gestede (Purely as he did well in the division at Blackburn)
Possibly Lescott just as he scores a few and may be ok a division below and i do think he cares
Kozak just to see how effective he can be at that level but if he doesn't start scoring loads fast sell him in Jan
Sinclair, i just have an inkling he could do some damage at that level but again if not sell him in Jan
Can't say i'm fussed about any of the others at all.
Gabby - get rid
Gil - does nothing for me
Gana - ditto
Veretout - Ditto
Ayew - ditto
Westwood - What does he actually do?
Richards - poor player
Hutton - Liability
Guzan - lost his Mojo
Bunn - poor
Sanchez - Poor
it just goes on & on doesn't it
Richardson - Oh dear
Bacuna - shot himself big time
The biggest thing though is to sort that spine!! It's been woeful for far too long now

Re: Team for the Championship??
Very hard to tell what we need and what we want, as it's impossible to tell what players will be willing to follow us down to the championship.
Personally I do not want these players anywhere near the club.
Gabby
Gestede
Nzogbia
Bunn
Guzan
Gana
Sanchez
Richards
Lescott
Bacuna
Players I think we should keep, but I suspect will leave.
Veretout
Ayew
Amavi
Players I suspect could do well in the championship, but would sell at promotion.
Westwood
Sinclair
Hutton
Gestede - I know it should say Gestede here, but I just hate the man. He's not a footballer. I'd rather watch ANYONE from the academy play up front.
Players I think we need to include in the first team mix in the championship
16) Clark
17) Baker
18) Gardner
19) Grealish
20) Robinson
21) Sellars
22) Suliman
23) Donacien
24) Toner
25) Calder
26) Rushian Hepburn Murphy
Signings I think we NEED to make, or find in the academy:
1) Goalkeeper - Guzan could probably do ok down there, but I'm done with him and his shit goalkeeping. He's part of the rot we have. And he's probably on high wages. Get rid.
2) If Amavi leaves - left back.
3) Right back - I want either an academy right back or a Lowton type signing to rotate with Hutton.
4) CM - we need an anchor. A good one.
5) Right winger
6) Striker, Ross McCormack maybe?
My two cents anyway. So much work to get done.

Re: Team for the Championship??
What I think is most important is we rid the squad of players at the end of their careers like Lescott, Richardson, Richards and Gabby. N'Zog is off anyway, and Bacuna needs to train on his own in the furthest corner of the pitch away from the reserves until his contract is up and he can fuck off to the Champions League.
I liked Cole (and Pires before him, and Heskey) but not in the squad, as player coaches. Do we actually bring in successful ex-players to spend a week at a time with the youth team?
I'm looking forward to the Championship. A lot of it is to do with never having to see some of the current squad ever play in a Villa shirt again.

Spot on. I really wish it's Rowett, Moyes or some other manager I can accept. Should be fun
