Re: Who do you want at RB?
Might have been easier to ask "Who DON'T you want at RB?"
For me, forget Chester; he's needed in central defence.
Forget Hutton; he's needed at Central Station.
Bacuna or Richards? I'm not sure I trust Richards after his CB performances but it's at RB where he made his name. Bacuna has turned things around this season so why not?
Tough choice.
EDIT: I went for Richards. Bacuna gets forward well and can deliver a cross into the box from that side. But we have Adomah to do that now and we won't miss the attacking impetus - we've plenty of that. What we DO need is a solid defender and provided Richards can swallow his pride at not being played in central defence I think, maybe given a game or two to settle back in, he'll be the slightly better option.

Yeah for me Richards. He's an absolute embarrassment at centre-back and the worst one I've EVER seen at the club along with Clark. But we had a little run when Okore returned last season where we looked solid with Richards and Cissokho at full-back. Not sure he will get the gig but I'd play him on Saturday for sure.

Went for Bacuna, I would rather have Bunn play right back over Hutton or Richards.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
I've gone for Richards.
I base that on the fact he can help with extra strength and height when defending set pieces and also poses more of a threat up front when we get them than Bacuna. I think he's worth a shot and if we can get him firing you never know he could just recapture his form and be another leader out there!

Bacuna all day long.
Richards had his shot against Luton and clearly showed he still doesn't give a feck

I don't know who I'd rather really. Voted Bacuna because before De Laet came in he was putting a shift in andnot doing badly.
But I can see the argument for Richards.
Before the season started I thought Hutton would be ideal for this division but he's been shite

Bacuna. Started the season looking like he wanted to put in a shift and make things up with the fans, was playing quite decently. Richards........well, remember that "display" at Luton? He can fuck off. Hutton try's but is simply incapable at everything.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
Bacuna has played well this season at right back, and was unlucky to lose his place. But with how weak we're looking in midfield at the moment, he might be needed as an extra option there, at least until January.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
I said Bunn as a joke, but this is a game where we need to be alert for the full 90 plus min, Ipswich tend to like the long ball which would trouble the best of wing-backs and with the likes of Jedinak (being a tad slow) and Westwood (being a bit weak) we really need to play a 4-4-2 and not the 4-2-4 we've played for the last couple of games.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
People might slate Richards for the Luton game but lets remember he was doing perfectly fine at right-back until RDM decided to change him to centre-back. I don't think it's fair to judge his performances at centre-back to how he would do at Right-back tbh because simply comparing apples and oranges.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
He wasn't though. He was awful at RB against Luton. Still remember his attempt at a fancy dribble after charging up the pitch. Then he lost the ball, didn't track back and they either scored had a great chance.

Er the first goal came because of a mistake from Gardner and Amavi, not Richards. Then in the second half he moved into centre-back. Furthermore it's just ONE HALF of football there so writing him off on the evidence of that is a tad harsh imo.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
That's why I said had a great chance. Either way he was awful and clearly thought it was below him. And the one half of shit football comes after a season of shit football when he was one of the main culprits to our relegation. His ability is shite. His attitude is poison. And his squad influence is pure aids. Get rid. Do not play.

Again you're judging him on his performances at CENTRE-BACK when you bring up last season. Which again isn't fair. You bring up his attitude but clearly RDM disagrees because the lad could have gone but they decided to keep him. Imo It's time to let bygones be bygones and see if he can improve this defence by playing in his rightful position.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
I'm judging him as a defender yes. His poison attitude, his couldn't be bothered mentality despite him being our top earner. I've seen him at CB and he was shite. I've seen him at RB and he was shite. He's just a shit footballer, with toxic attitude to boot.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
The attitude goes a long way and Bacuna had that all over him. But his first half against Luton was fine. Second half at CB with Okore was horrifying.

Richards is a more than capable right back at this level.
He is not a centre back at any level.
Play him.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
I've gone for Bacuna because I despise him slightly less than Richards. Both of them are a pair of fucking hopeless losers from last season's pit of poison and if we weren't totally desperate I'd wish to never see either of them in a Villa shirt again.

I can picture you saying just that in the changing room 10 mins before kick off.

Okore plays on the right of middle, not left, and Richards is an RB, not a central defender. So we had two players in absolutely key positions playing in the wrong places. I think it was because we didn't have anyone else to play on the left (from memory Baker was injured, Chester hadn't arrived and Clark was off). We learnt last season that Richards is not a central defender. At best at Luton it should have been left with Okore and Richards in their correct positions and someone else (anyone else - Cissokho?) on the left.
I voted Richards because I liked what I saw of him the one (?) time he did play RB. I don't know if Elphick is better than Okore, but we have better players around Richards now and I think if he could be coached properly, and didn't stray far from his position, he would do the job a lot better than Bacuna. Who, after all, is a midfielder.
I hate players playing out of position!

Yeah my "Tips for self worth and personal coaching" manual isn't selling well.

Re: Who do you want at RB?
Fuck, Amavi last year, now this. Is there a curse on this club?
We do not have strong cover for this position as some have said and I would play none of the above for various reasons as some have said.
That said ............. I believe this to be a spot where 2 individuals can do themselves a lot of good and make something happen and make it work effectively, RDM's man management skills in getting Richards to focus and perform would go along way to proving his ability as a manager and Richards can resurrect a once impressive career.
Can I see it coming off? Nah......... I'd promote the best RB from the under 23s or 18s and tell him, go and make your name son and do this club and your family proud.
