Re: Derby v Villa post-match thread
0-0 away against Derby point gained and were unlucky not have have had a goal or two to defend after the first half performance.
home side had a better second half - they had to, after the first half. shame we did not create more chances in the second half.

Good point in my opinion. Derby are one of the strongest Championship squads and are normally strong at home. Plus they have an established and battle hardened team who have been together a while so know each others game a lot better then we do at the moment.
We are still putting a team together and lost our last goodness knows how many away games so i was fearful for todays result.
A point gained and stopped the run of away defeats. All good.

Agree with above Derby away is not easy and our away games so far against two tough sides at there grounds have shown we are a decent side with more recruits to add, badly need some pace in this side upfront though but unlucky hitting the bar post and cleared off the line but shows we are a threat.

Derby had conceded once in the last 5 home games so to hit the bar, post & goal line clearance is good... We were shot last year we are competing this year, I'm happy so far

And to add to all the above we kept a clean sheet. We actually showed an ability to defend.

Far to much breaks down in the final third. Mccormack seems to come to deep for the ball. Id like to see more wide play and balls into the box from the bye line.
Mucho work to do IMO - and thats on the training ground as well as the transfer market.

On my way home.
Happy with that point. We did everything but score IMO And Derby can walk away feeling lucky. Another clean sheet for the defence, Chester and Elphick continue to really impress me as a pairing.
Need another striker and Jedi in midfield

Positive for a team still forming (again, will our 2 midfielders today be the ones to see us thru the season?) & still, we're told, incomplete. We look fairly solid, which is a revelation after the last few seasons. Cutting edge to be refined obviously but I'd be more concerned if we weren't getting ANY shots on goal.

What do we need to do to get some luck!? Thankfully, unlike on Tuesday we didn't concede when things went against us and got tough in the end.
On another day we win comfortably and that can only be a good sign against a team who were more fancied than us for promotion at the start of the season.
I like what Dr and his team are building

I'm surprised there was no room on that bench for Rushian HM. He is clearly not part of this year's plans which I find surprising. Unless he's injured of course

I know he is a youngster but defo think we should be see RHM at least on the bench and as an impact sub along with Green left and right up top would add us pace late in games something we lack and have no real options striker wise, i'm a little baffled he isn't on the bench matey aswell hopefully he will soon get his chance

As expected. Haven't seen the match today as I'm knee deep in whisky at the cabin.
Who played well? Who were shit? I see Gardner played. Was he his usual quality?
Just want to brag a bit - another result I got right. That's 4 of 5 now haha. Well I got the draw right, iirc I put down 1-1.

I didn't see the game, but since we didn't win, I'm going to guess we were "shit" and Westwood, Gardner, Bacuna, Cissokho, and Gestede "need to be sold" because they're "the worst players ever seen at Villa Park."
Seriously, though. This is a long season, and Derby will be in the top half, maybe one of the promotion candidates. I'll take a point.

Re: Derby v Villa post-match thread
One thing I do not understand is why are all the players not fit that are on the bench example Kozak, way below fitness, his level is like mine and I am 67 so surely the coaching staff should have had him on extra fitness.
But back to the game good first half, and defending was a lot better, last year we would have lost this game.
Just need our good doctor to sort out new players before the dead line, which is going to be hard because a lot of teams are in the same boat.UTV

Re: Derby v Villa post-match thread
We were ok, which is not good enough. However, we are work in progress so I think we are probably a tad ahead of schedule.
Luck swings in roundabouts unless your Aston Villa, ffs.
Add Amavi, Jedi and Tshibola to that side today and I think we win it comfortably. Add a quality RB and Bamford (or better) and we'll walk through almost all in the league.
Rudy's knock and Kozak's display will set the Dr in to action and I expect signings this week.
We are definitely moving in the right direction!

Pretty much everyone played well first half, which we absolutely bossed. Even Gardner was decent and hit a shot with his instep from 30 yards that struck the post. If it had gone in it would have been a worldie. He did give the odd ball away though. Westwood guilty of the same at times, particularly one where he tried to make amends and gave away a free kick on the edge of our area. We missed Tish I think.
McCormack also hit a beauty from 20 yards which Carson somehow managed to tip onto the bar and Eplhick had a point blank shot cleared off the line in the 2nd half.
2nd half we were under the kosh for about 20 minutes. Other than that they were lucky to get a point I'd say.
Elphick and Chester were superb all game and always looked in control. It's just a shame that we didn't score when we were on top.

Pretty much what 4bet said, with the 3 mentioned would have been a different game. I'd say that cissokho was not only poor, he was a liability grabbing shirts in the pen box, the one time he tried to cross it was embarrassing . Bacuna was average but I didn't think he was as bad as cissokho. Elphick and Chester were good, Gollini had one flap but apart from that did everything needed. Midfield was again light, lacking in drive but with Westwood and Gardner side by side hardly gonna tear it up. Grealish and Mac did OK without being outstanding. Ayew could have passed more and gestede went off injured to be replaced by a lethargic kozak who was then subbed himself later. Mac had a rasper tipped onto the bar, Gardner hit a beauty that came back off the inside of the post and Elphick had a side foot cleared off the line. We're definitely 3 or 4 players short which means we're still a work in progress with deadwood still having to be played. Still having good first halves and fading but I expect that to change as we bolster. RB, creative midfielder, number 9 and I'll be happy but only if we sign more in Jan.
Enjoy the whiskey!

Do we think amavi is being lft on bench due to fitness or the fact he likes cissokho? Im hoping fitness.

I'd suspect fitness. Unless his cameo at left wing was RDM trying to find our Bale?

Re: Derby v Villa post-match thread
We were unlucky not to get all 3 points today. Cissokho could have cost us at the end by giving away a penalty, which we were lucky to get away with. If Amavi is going to be played higher up the left flank I'd rather see Bennett at LB than Cissokho who I think needs to change his attitude. I think the attackers will all work together much better after more time gelling. Grealish and McCormack seemed to get in each other's way at times as they seemed to be trying to get in the same positions in the box.

Re: Derby v Villa post-match thread
Regarding Ayew, I have this voice in my head that's starting to make sense (or talking bollocks).
Its to do with teamwork, Leicester proved last year what can be achieved by getting 11 dudes to sing the same song every week.
I would like to see us without Ayew just to see what sort of balance we have, I'm inclined to say Ayew OR Grealish, but Jack is edging it for me right now. Ayew is undoubtedly a player but needs work, like Jack, on his whole game. If anything, I'd rather see Ayew as the loan striker, with Jack, Rmac and a another on the right of the 3.
Now, if we get a Trippier type in and Amavi up to speed, we will have fullbacks that can make things happen and in Jedi and Tshi we have grafters that can cover them when they on the move.
We need a RB, No9 and attacking MF. We also need depth on the bench and we need the "OK" brigade out, Gards, Cissoko, Kozak, Bacuna, Richards, Gabby and maybe Gestede.
Would like Trippier, Yedlin, Hernandez, Bamford, Forrestieri and N'Doye.
Play
Gollini
Trippier Elphick Chester Amavi
Jedi Tshibola
Forrestieri Rmac Grealish
Hernandez
Bench
Bunn, Baker, Yedlin, N'Doye, Westwood, Ayew, Bamford.
Backup
Steer, Bennett, Okore, Hutton, Toner, Lyden, Green, H-Murphy, Gestede.

Re: Derby v Villa post-match thread
How sloooooow was it? Christ on a cracker we should be knocking about one hell of a lot faster than that.
Gardner was on defensively but, his scintillating shot aside was total shit when we had the ball. He just hides.
Bacuna: you know I have to tip my hat to him. He made a silly comment and had gotten dog's abuse from the fans but instead of being a contemptible prick like Lescott, he's knuckled down, improved out of sight and is putting in a solid shift each game. Fair play! He's won me back.
Westwood got stuck in but he's still a plodding player.
With Tish and Jedi we'd have destroyed Derby.
Kozak is done. If he's unfit (which he certainly looked) then that's poor and unprofessional. He got a great reception and had chances but he's as slow as continental drift and, for a big bloke, soft as shit. Time to get rid.
Camara was going to get around Cissokho sooner or later so a good call to get Amavi on. That ended his influence as he had to bugger off to the other side and got little change from Bacuna.
Gollini still worries me a little but every game is more experience.
According to the people that know championship football, Wednesday and Derby are two of the consistently better sides. Getting only 1 point from them is disappointing but I think we deserved at least a draw from the Wednesday game and we've a new midfield and maybe amother striker to come in yet so I've got very high hopes for the remainder of the season.
But my god it was so slow. We really should be cutting sides to pieces with more pace. Very frustrating.
EDIT: once again we see absolutely pish officiating. Freekicks for nothing fouls, letting things go when fouls had clearly been commited and I'm certain the linesman in our half in the second period is a Forest fan. Bunch of clowns.

Re: Derby v Villa post-match thread
Agree, the referee's are awful.
If we cant get all our targets, we need the average joe's to raise their games to the standard of the others. I think a fit Amavi will have a huge impact as long as his defending is on the money.
Lets not forget that its all new, these guys have only just met and it takes time to find a good balance, rhythm, togetherness and a style of play. We on the way.
