Gunners or Blanks?
Arsenal v Aston Villa
I've put off creating this thread so that we had more time to enjoy the euphoria of winning a match and scoring two goals at the weekend.
However, all good things come to an end .... or do they? Arsenal have a lot of talent and are currently playing well as a team. Can we create a real upset and turn them over at their rather grand stadium? Or will it be a reality check for us?

Historically speaking, the thing that gives me a glimour of hope in the next two games is we do okay at the Emirates, and Mourinho has a poor record at VP. Not expecting to win either but hopeful of a draw in at least one. Which is a crap state of affairs but they are two very good sides to be fair, and we're a pale imitation of Aston Villa.

A narrow loss is my prediction. Alexis Sanchez is a beast of a player and will be too much for us. 1-0 to arsenal. Maybe 2-0

Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa
Grealish to score, Villa to lose.
I'm giving Lambert the benefit of the doubt that Jack will play after putting him on for a minute against Bournemouth, that's the kind of petty punishment I expect to see our manager dole out since he knows Jack is far too popular to banish to the reserves. He'll be a substitute for Weimann at exactly the 60-minute mark and will curl one in to the top right of the goal from left of the box. Lambert is going to start Gil, Delph, Benteke and Weimann and despite Sanchez making a string of mistakes on Sunday he'll definitely start. Cleverly can do no wrong (and he did work his balls off on Sunday) so he'll be on Sanchez's right in a 4-3-3, with Gil in front of him and Weimann on the left of Benteke. Lambert will tell everyone to defend but Gil will misunderstand and will try to go forward and take pot shots at goal, in a single stroke destroying Lambert's ambition to only ever go on the attack and register shots on goal after the 60-minute substitution window. This week's red card will go to Gabby again, who'll replace a disinterested Benteke, and will get a straight red for trying to break the legs of whoever fouls Grealish the worst just after he's come on.

Pretty certain we'll lose but I think we might score a goal.
3-1 to the Arsenal.

Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa
This is the game for our pass a lot but generally go nowhere tactics. Keep the ball and Arsenal can't score and hope for some magic from Gil or Benteke to get the win.
Based on that logic then no doubt Lambert will go all out for the win and we'll get smashed 5-0

I think we really need this game right now to return us to reality. On another forum (the one with the very grumpy patriarch), quite a number of fans are getting carried away with our FA Cup 'success'.

Common sense says it's likely to be a loss. I'll still get excited about it, when did common sense ever have anything to do with being a Villa fan?

Alexis Sanchez could miss the game. Hamstring injury. That'd be a big lift to our chances.

Saw the headline on Sky "Sanchez to miss Villa game" and I went into a full on panic, thinking our Carlos was going to miss the match. Luckily, it's Arsenal's Sanchez.

I did exactly the same, and then realised that it was their loss not ours. Phew!KMitch wrote:Villa_Dan wrote:Alexis Sanchez could miss the game. Hamstring injury. That'd be a big lift to our chances.

That is absolutely massive for us, if that is the case, he would have destroyed us!
So it could be closer but still think we will lose.

I couldn't afford either in my fantasy team, so I'm quite chuffed.Villa_Dan wrote:achilles wrote:Villa_Dan wrote:Alexis Sanchez could miss the game. Hamstring injury. That'd be a big lift to our chances.

The media think it's going to be a routine win for Arsenal but I'm not so sure.

The poll shows that a spirited loss and abject loss have same 7 votes, I would go with either of them but wouldn't be surprised with abject loss especially with Lambert's previous lol.
I know I am extremely positive :)

Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa
I think I have already said on this thread, but our record at the Emirates is decent and gives me hope, as does our record at VP against Mourinho.
If history can help us there (and let's face it, it doesn't or we'd still be the best team in the world, ha!) then a couple of draws would be a very pleasing return. A win in either would be amazing, but of course we're expected to lose both. It is what it is.

Results have gone pretty well for us today, so if we can get something against expectations it would be great!

Spot on bud, but we're still down to 16th and only 3 points off the bottom 3, so even with results going okay for us it's still very precariousvillabromsgrove wrote:Results have gone pretty well for us today, so if we can get something against expectations it would be great!

Any points in the next two games are a bonus. Points in the following four games are vital. We won't be relegated because we lose to the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. It's failure against the lesser teams that is damaging and needs to be avoided.

The 6 points we took in the same 2 fixtures last season were absolutely massive.DaveAV1 wrote:Any points in the next two games are a bonus. Points in the following four games are vital.
